US Senior Open - Langer & Maggert Lead @ -5; Watson & Monty -4

In near 100 degree heat, Tom is playing like a 45 year old instead of a 65 year old.
3 under for the front 9 and 7 under overall. He has a two shot lead.

Hale Irwin runs circles around Watson as a senior golfer. Not even close.
Watson had that hot week in the British Open at Turnberry and shows up decent at Augusta, but he never was the dominant senior golfer Irwin was.

A Google search shows that Hale has 7 Senior majors and Tom has 6.

I would guess most of Watson's senior majors are the British Sr Open, which gets very low American turnout.
It wasn't even consider a major for many years.
I think Irwin has something like 37 wins on the Champions Tour.

Hale Irwin was great on the senior tour no doubt, but to see Tom Watson do what he has done in the last 7 or 8 years in the regular majors is nothing short of amazing. Him making cuts at Augusta and nearly pulling off a win at The Open in 08 (iirc) is unbelievable.
Plus Tom is an awesome guy, unlike Hale.

Anybody know what's up with the Fox camera work? Flickers and almost looks like a computer stream. I've noticed it on other Fox broadcasts. Really hard on the eyes.

This is only the second golf tournament Fox has televised so their camera folks are still in the learning mode.

fun fact ... hale was a db at colorado st ... probably a walk on, but impressive, nonetheless ...
