Yes they can. They would "deserve it" if they played a tough schedule. But they didnt. They know good and well that they can take a good bcs team in a one game shot, but they cant week in week out. So they schedule their one OOC game to get enough respect to get high enough to make a BCS bowl but they dont schedule multiples to earn a MNC shot knowing that theyd miss out on a big payday because they wouldnt go undefeated. As I saw somewhere else back in the day FSU and Miami earned their respect by going out and scheduling the best of the best beating them week in week out and people took them seriously. Boise TCU and Cincy (the big east while a bcs still doesnt have respect) refuses to do this
