I know this came out a couple days ago, but I searched "McAdoo" and "suing" and nothing came up.

quote:

"From selection of a major to selection of courses, the UNC football program controlled football student-athletes' academic track, with the sole purpose of ensuring that football student-athletes were eligible to participate in athletics, rather than actually educating them," says his lawsuit, filed Thursday by the law firms of Ferguson, Chambers & Sumter in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mehri and Skalet in Washington, D.C.

I'm really perplexed that the NCAA hasn't hit UNC harder yet.

I have to believe the NCAA will get involved at some point. This is the definition of lack of institutional control IMO.

The NCAA is great at making sure kids don't get an unauthorized hamburger but not so stellar at punishing issues such as this.

And, in fairness, what can they really do? By the strict letter of the "law", so to speak, what they did was legit. Non athletes could take the class so no special favoritism (even though the class was clearly designed with the sole purpose of keeping athletes eligible) and the NCAA is not going to get into the business of telling their hundreds of member colleges if each of their classes is challenging enough.

Hopefully that lawsuit gains traction, though because while the NCAA can't do jack, you can make a good argument that UNC is in breach of contract or whatever the proper legalese is.

I hope Roy's legacy goes down in flames and he loses both titles. He turned Quin Snyder into the NCAA and got Mizzou on probation for an infraction not nearly as severe as this crap at North Carolina.

I think it's hilarious. UNC has always been so sanctimonious about it's "academic prowess". Ooooops...

However, weren't all these players adults? Did UNC restrain them at gun point from getting n education? They shouldn't get a dime.

I tend to agree on this thought process, but you have to imagine an 18 year old deciding between a hard class or a guaranteed A. The school shouldn't be putting them in that position and the Grant in Aid does stipulate that you are to be provided an education, I believe.

UNC is pretty much untouchable.

Its shocking that the NCAA hasn't done anything yet.

The school "controlled" their academic track, allegedly. That's legalese for holding a gun to their head.
