Unassisted Triple Play by 5 y.o.

I'm currently coaching a 5-6 y.o. T-ball team in my home town. As I expected, the kids are progressing as the season goes by, but last night one of our players did something that I had never seen before. He turned an unassisted triple play. Runners on 1st & 2nd base. Pop-up to him at 2nd base, caught and ran to 2nd base then ran down the runner going back to 1st.
After doing a little research, I am even more amazed at what I witnessed last night. This has only been done 15 times in Major League baseball history.

It's a very cool thing to witness but I'd think that it's a lot more common in Little League as kids tend to get confused on the base paths.

Umm of course it's uncommon in the majors. They throw the ball. Lol

Dude, they are 5 years old. They don't even know how to run the bases.

come on man...kids dont know what they're doing on the base path half the time...
a triple play can occur like that almost every time....
biggest suprise here is that the kid caught the ball.

Only 15 times in MLB history, but 100,015 times in T-ball. Are you shocked that t-ball kids don't know not to run on a pop up?

Clearly, this means he is destined to become the GOAT baseball player.
Get him in travel ball immediately with all the other future hall of famers.

One of my friends did this on my team when we were in 3rd grade

Not that I'm putting a lot of merit I to this, because hey, they're 5...
But it is all relative. Just like the base runners may not understand the rules or how to really play the game, you've also gotta remember the kid that turned the triple play probably had no fricking clue what he was doing either.
Good for him though.

I'm surprised it's happened even 15 times in the MLB.

Double steal or hit n run. Line up middle where ss or 2b is there.

Even if there is, the runners have to tag up and can advance at their own risk. So... triple play stands regardless.

I had the same thing happen last year with a pop up to the pitcher. Caught it, then ran and tagged out the two base runners advancing.
I don't think the kids understood why the adults were so excited.

Base running is not their strong suit
