JDS. The last minute was even, but JDS boxed and pointed Stipe for the majority.

Get these fricking judges out of here

49-46. What a fricking joke.

Miocic won the 1st two rounds and dos Santos won 3 and 5. 4 was a draw

The equivalent of NFL/MLB/NBA Refs in telling a playoff newbie/upstart vs estalished champ/playoff regular, that you have to earn your stripes, come back next time.
Stipe paid a price for gassing, never coming with more than 1-2 combos from mid-3rd to fight's finish.
He'll learn from this.

49-46 x 2. frick that noise. I'd be pissed too if I'm Stipe. That's insulting.
ETA: to be clear I thought JDS won

What the frick was that scoring?! Wow

Unanimous decision
The judging has gotten ridiculous as of late. They would do just as well to hold a hand over each fighter for crowd response. Draw or split decision but seriously a unanimous decision after that fight?

Judging has been bad, but the UD here wasnt terrible. The 49-46 is bad, especially two of them.

The decision wasn't bad
It was just how lopsided the scoring was

I'm strongly in the camp that the UFC and MMA in general needs to develop an independent and unique scoring system.
As an inventor of a competitive sport, one of the first pieces of golden advice I got when we were in the infant stages of figuring the game out we were scoring it like tennis and some random old dude that stopped to watch us play told me when he asked how we were scoring it, that to stand alone we needed to come up with our own scoring system.
I then came up with something different and developed a scorebook to keep the stats and track the match.
This fight was a boxing centric match, but I think those 49-46's came as a result of all the take downs JDS defended. It's all subjective in the scoring now, who knows if Stipe really wanted to take him down, maybe his game plan was to pin him against the cage and limit the chances of getting caught by JDS and using the cage and clinch to drain JDS and pick him off with shots when breaking the clinch.
There really needs to a way to score all the facets of a MMA match. You get credit for a take down, does the guy get credit for getting back to his feet?

I dunno I really don't disagree with the 49-46. The 2nd and 4th were real close but I'd still give both to JDS. JDS was landing more shots and landed a bunch of good power shots too. The only round I had a definite win for Stipe was the 1st round. I was also happy to see Nate get the ever living shite kicked out of him especially since he missed weight.

The problem with this is it has to go through the athletic commissions which are mostly boxing guys who don't truly understand mma.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Miocic get his takedown in the 2nd? Just like the takedown won JDS the fourth, it probably won Miocic the 2nd.

The workaround is to create an International Federation of MMA. It's honestly big enough, profitable enough, and competed in throughout enough countries to make a serious run at being an Olympic sport.
A sport has to have 75 countries that it is competed in to be eligible for Olympic consideration, there's a few other hurdles and the International Federation to govern the sport is the first step.
eta: Here's the IMMAF LINK
Looks like some Swedish fricks saw the money grab opportunity and took it. UFC doesn't appear to contribute financially to this thing, so it'll probably never be anything more than a leech on the MMA promotions.

JDS prevented a ton of takedowns and I don't think Stipe really did much of anything once JDS got to the ground. Takedowns for judging is the most overrated thing in the sport especially if they do no dmg while they are down there. What I would give Stipe a lot of credit for is he controlled the octagon usually moving JDS back. As I said before the 2nd and 4th were very close but I'd still give them to JDS.

Stipe was like 1-18 on takedown while Junior was something like 1-1 or 1-2.
JDS landed 30-40 more strikes, had the only knockdown I believe, and finished the fight stronger. Stipe definitely wasn't robbed. The judges got it right, even if their numbers were off.
