First day back on campus for #UConnFootball! And just 130 days until the next Civil Conflict with @UCF_Football !

Just checked w/ @UCF_Football: "We have no involvement with the trophy or creating a rivalry game with UConn." They were surprised by tweet.

quote:

UCF and UConn are now awkward conference opponents, thanks to the random caprices of conference realignment.

This past year, UConn beat UCF in a shocker -- it was UConn's only win against an FBS team, and UCF's only loss to a conference opponent -- and UConn coach Bob Diaco used the postgame press conference to recommend a rivalry trophy

Does this mean UCF's basketball team is officially in a rivalry with UConn too?

As if being a UCONN football fan wasn't embarassing enough

I think this could actually turn into something.

I mean hell, teams play for Paul Bunyan's axe and a fricking oak bucket today. They had to be laughing at that shite reading it off the Gutenberg press back in the late 1900s

If the fans on both sides get into it, seems like a good idea

This may start a rivalry in the sense that UCF may kill UCONN for pulling this dumb stunt. How do you start a rivalry and create a trophy and the other school knows nothing about it....

Forced rivalries are one thing, but creating a trophy without UCF knowing about it is pretty funny.

UCF will probably win the next 5 meetings and use the trophy as a door stop.

I think it's original and funny.

I doubt these two are in the same conference long enough to fill out all of those plates, though.

I like it. Weren't most rivalry trophies started by one team putting something up as a trophy? I mean yea it's weird because it's Uconn and USF, but they have to start somewhere.
