UAB coach Bill Clark said Sunday he believes the school's football program is about to be shut down.

Most thought it would be after the 2016 season when they shut it down, but it seems the program might be done now. It sucks for all the players and coaches who committed to play and coach at the school.

what happens to the players? Do they have to sit out if they transfer?

I would assume the NCAA would give them an exemption like they do when major violations occur that will allow them to transfer without penalty.

But it is the NCAA.

I am pretty sure they could transfer anywhere and play immediately.

Is there something else with this that I am not aware? They have always seemed to have good to great support for a school that size and a great coach.

So basically the U of A board won't let UAB to build an on-campus stadium to boost attendance? That's what this is all about?

No they haven't. They have a great coach now, but have had bad coaches for a long time. Attendance has been pretty bad considering they are the only FBS team in Birmingham. This is the best year they've had in a long time and they are still struggling as far as attendance goes.

15 - 20k per game in CUSA isn't bad at all. Just invest in the teams facilities and build a winner while not scheduling home games when big brother is at home and BAM. Decent mid-major.

Those numbers are extremely generous.

With the Blazers winning more, attendance has nearly doubled from last season, from a league-worst 10,548 fans per game to 20,138 so far.

They play at legion field and attendance is slim. I wish they would build a stadium on campus... Sucks for the players and coaches.

They had some decent crowds to start the season, but they've gone downhill as the season progressed.

From my understanding, UAB is rich, and they had full support for an on-campus stadium. All suites were committed before the stadium was approved. Bama BOT denied the on-campus stadium.

Since no one wants to go to Legion, the BoT used that as their driving force.

It seems that Bama is deathly afraid of UAB grads becoming UAB fans and boosters, since that is where all the money in the state is.

As someone who went to an SEC school undergrad with a great football team and then 5 years in graduate school at UCSD which had no football team I really don't see the necessity for good schools like UAB to have football teams, particularly if they are drain instead of boon financially.

The university may be rich (I really have no idea), but that money isn't going to their athletics. Having the suits committed isn't going to pay for a stadium.

Even UAB's president said something along the lines of an on-campus stadium isn't necessarily what they need.
