legion field is in one of the worst areas of Birmingham.

I think the stadium being in downtown will help draw a few more people in.

All of this will be for nothing if they can't keep Clark for long term. He's been a winner everywhere he's been and will win at UAB if they leave him alone and give him what he needs. He's also a hell of a promoter of his program that goes all the way back to his HS days.

Bham needs a decent venue, especially if they're going to host bowl games, etc. The stadium is a good idea and should be worth it in the long run.

A program that didn't get any support and got the axe shouldn't be building a 40 to 50K seat stadium.

Do they even have a good fan base in Birmingham. A city that size should support the local team. Or are they all Bama and Auburn fans..not alums, but fans.

They cut out football, could barely afford it. Now they suddenly have enough money to not only fund the team, but also build a new stadium?

No. Even the students are bigger UA/AU fans than of UAB.

Think more on the lines of the city building it, and allowing UAB to use it. Birmingham is dead set on building a new convention center. The powers that be want to host a bowl, NCAA BB postseason tourney, and have been courting the NBA (pipe dream). The football team using the facility would just be more justification to build it. It is going to happen regardless what the tax payers say.

ETA:

As a grad student at UAB, I would rather see them play their games at the Hoover met. They would pull a large crowd out there.

Yeah, but I could take my kids and not worry about getting shanked. I have watched football games there. A lot better than LF.

You worry about getting shanked by the BJCC and Uptown?

UAB football is trying to be taken seriously and as a grad you want to move them to a 10,000 seat stadium baseball stadium that's no longer good enough for a AA minor league team? One that's more than twice as far from campus as Legion Field? When Hoover HS brings in portable bleachers they might bring the capacity up to 11,000. That wasn't even big enough for high school games when I went to Hoover 10 years ago.

You're an idiot
