so you are assuming the ACC is losing FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 or NC St and Va Tech to the SEC?

wonder what they had in common

They brought at least two sports to the table, with the most important one being football. It's not like it's any secret. They had been stable programs for a while.

they won't dominate the market, but the games will still be shown there. so, in a sense, they can in fact deliver the market.

perhaps a deal with NBC Sports is close and the network asked for Tulane and ECU b/c they have a lower penetration in those states with the channel and want more leverage with cable operators?

I assume whatever network they are negotiating with has some input on who they invite.

why is it a sure thing they are losing Louisville and Cincy? Are they going to the Big 12?

Probably the ACC....all the rumors are that, at least, UConn and Louisville will be in either the G1G or ACC (not necessarily together, as I don't see UL getting into the B1G). If UConn goes to the B1G, Cincy and Louisville will likely get invites to the ACC.

Why do we have to assume that? They just lost Maryland, so at least they have to replace them. Let's assume they get UConn to replace Maryland, they may just grab Cincy and Louisville to go ahead and get to 16.

I guess I hadn't thought about them deciding to go ahead to 16.

This shite is really starting to get over the top.

Going right to 16 would insulate the ACC against losing 2 teams, and also allow them to get Cincy and Louisville before the Big 12 does.

Is the ACC going to be able to start their own network anytime soon or are they locked into ESPN and that semi national syndication package for the foreseeable future?

Perfet move for Tulane since most of their student body is from the Northeast.

False. 33% are from the Northeast (2012 freshman class)

If the basketball-only teams stay this should make for good games in Fogelman, or at least good players to watch. Football-wise, like everyone said, it's just new C-USA.

The Big East may look similar to the old C-USA, but there is a slight improvement there. A few of the programs that left C-USA for the Big East earlier have improved their programs since then, and a program like SMU is in a much better place now than it was in old C-USA days. It is a very big improvement on the basketball side, and the brand name of the Big East is much stronger than C-USA. Image and brand name are important as stupid as it sounds. This is a good move for Tulane. It may not be a home run, but the Tulane athletic department seems to have turned a potential disaster situation into a positive move. Where else could Tulane have realistically ended up that would have been better for them? This is a move in the right direction, and it appears that Tulane might have actually started to consistently get these decisions right with the hiring of CJ, the new stadium, and now this move to the Big East.

But it sure isn't going to help Tulane's baseball program.

At least now Jones can finally win a championship in baseball in some conference. But not sure if his SOS will help him get to the regionals. What a joke that baseball league will be.

Right now, they'd have to beat St. John's...not sure they can.

LSU should re-schedule them every year now. It'll be a "BCS" team and it'll be another rentawin.
