The good news if there is any to be learned here is that these kids after they heal up will have a nice long rest break to heal up the damage their high school coaches created. Tulane baseball will be back at a high level next year on the pitching side.

Please explain the comment "since the university college has vanished". It was always my understanding that most tulane athletes were enrolled in it, as its grade requirements were not as high. Are you saying it no longer exists? As for 11.7 scholarships, does not LSU & the rest of the state baseball teams have the same number?

Since the university college has vanished(post Katrina).... filling the roster with enough talent to compete is tough with 11.7 schollys and the few that are there on legislative schollys.

Why?

Can you explain what makes it so tough, isn't that the rule for all schools? As an outsider, I would think that with the legislative schollys his job would be easier that other private schools who don't have that option.

The university college was closed after Katrina, the grade requirements and TUITION were different than Tulane University.

All baseball programs are limited to 11.7 athletic scholarships per team.

The legislative schollys are generally given to political cronies of the people giving, very few to athletes.

Again you nailed it Choupiq. All "exceptions" to academic requirements are used up by football and basketball (only about 20 allowed total); other athletes must meet the admission requirements. Tuition is the big killer since 35 guys splitting 11.7 scholarships doesn't go far. Yes other privates have high tuition, but most will find academic money or endowment scholorship money to help athletics...Cowen won't.

You already stated the problem: over work by their high school coaches.

Tulane pitchers seem to be getting injured at a much higher rate than other programs.

I assume that since tulane is a private university, TOPS is not applicable? And what did Katrina have to do with shutting down the university college? Was it the loss in the number of students itself, faculty, etc?

Didn't realize it was that high, not worth it. You would be better off @LSU.

Just saw that they lost to Northwestern State to drop 7-7 on the season.
