Well i mean if they want someone with experience recruiting kids to a place like Tulane, it would certainly be Jake over Riser. Not only has he been the recruiting coordinator since 2009(might actually be a negative lol), he's 4 years older and a more experienced coach.

Not that Riser will never be a great coach. But he's 29 and his team just finished 5th in the southland in his first year. He has a little more to prove.

Riser's resume is too thin for this job.
I just don't know what kind of coach Jake is. Jones wasn't putting in the work he used to on recruiting, but I don't know if that falls on Jake or not.
Honestly, Jones should have kicked Jake out of the nest a few years ago and get him some varied experience. We became way too insular over the last few years.
It's a close call; I'd lean Riser, but really neither is best.

Joe Scheuermann will never see the Tulane dugout and Matt Riser has a lot more to prove before stepping up to Tulane. David Pierce would be the best hire IMO, but I don't think he wants the job due to his strong ties to the Houston area and wanting the Rice job if Graham ever croaks. That leaves Gautreau as the best guy for the job with his proven ability to recruit the Tulane type of student and good athletes in just a couple years as the main recruiter. Not to mention that you are looking at a guy who, with some success, won't be looking to step-stone to another program.

People forget that Rick Jones was in the top 15 nationally as far as pay goes. He was paid in line with what we see at the top of the SEC. If it comes down to money, I wouldn't be surprised if any one of those coaches jumped ship for Tulane.

Also, I saw it posted on another board that Pierce wants the Tulane job. His wife just isn't sold about living in New Orleans.

Happy wife, happy life. That's part of the "ties to Houston". I would like to see him as the coach, but Gaut is a popular opinion among the locals.

perfectgame.com is citing sources that say Tulane will interview Pierce, former LSU assistant Turtle Thomas and Miss St. pitching coach Butch Thompson.

Thomas must be in his 60s. I guess that could be okay, but I'm not sure of his FIU record.

North Florida and they are terrible.

As for Tulane, I think Pierce interviewed today.

Confirmed:

@ScottDKushner: If you're scoring at home, that makes three coaches to interview with #Tulane: Jake Gautreau, Matt Riser and David Pierce.

I'm happy to see they got an interview with Pierce. I think he's the cream of the crop of candidates.

Better resume than Kingston. Would be awesome if we can get Pierce

On paper, Pierce stands out for many reasons.

Hopefully Dickson, for the first time in his 15 year TU career, will get it right. (CJ was a gift from Payton and Loomis).

I think there is another interview today. No word yet if it is Turtle or Butch Thompson or whoever. A decision could be made by this weekend.

LA Tech has hired Greg Goff from Campbell. That eliminates Gautreau from that position.

That's a damn solid hire for La Tech.

I've heard scuttle on who the interviewee is for today (not one of the 2 you mentioned, but I just heard a rumor), and it's blah - something a search firm would come up with. Dickson just never stays on top of his business, so he came into the search cold.

Tulane has got to get Pierce signed.
