I just find it hard to believe your center piece can be a 6 foot tall jump shooter.

Who's averaging 9 assist a game. He's not just a jump shooter

I'd add Westbrook, kevin love, possibly Aldridge

So while Kobe is great, he has never done anything without really good to great bigs.

no team wins without good to great secondary players. Even MJ's Bulls had very good big man play with Horace Grant/Bill Cartwright and Dennis Rodman/Toni Kukoc.

I really don't see how one can deny that the most recent Lakers squads were built around Kobe.

That's like saying the 2011 Mavs weren't built around Dirk b/c Tyson Chandler was on the team.

Yeah, not like they won titles in 08-09 and 09-10 or anything.

you won't see a more homer pick than this one if the thread goes 10+ pages. MARC GASOL?

DPOY & Best passing big in the league. He needs to be a more consistent scorer, but that is like basically the only knock on his game.

I said AD is the next closest, but I did not include him in a true centerpiece yet. FWIW, I'd have Durant right behind AD, and that has nothing to do with their ability and everything to do with their position and scarcity.

It is almost impossible to build a team around a jumpshooter, hence the knock on Durant. This season is the first time Durant has given a glimmer of hope that he can carry a team on his own. I understand that AD is more of a reach than Durant at this point, but I can get production from a replacement much cheaper at SG than I can at PF or C.

There aren't many.

Obviously Lebron and Durant. I love Paul, George, and Love but you can pick at all of them (maybe not Paul if we're past the point where angry hornets fans are saying Paul's knees are done?). In spite of his rep for being soft I think you have to wonder if BG might be emerging as a potential franchise player. Rose and (to a lesser extent) Westbrook have current injuries hanging over their heads if you want to downgrade either.

So what you are saying is that Kobe couldn't do anything until he had other good players built around him. Who knew

Yeah that's what I'm saying.

I'm saying he wasn't playing with a shite sandwich around him like Iverson in 2000, Lebron in 2007 or Dwight in 2009.

And I hate Dwight.

Durant got 4-1'd by Memphis last season without Westbrook.

They were replacing a top 10 NBA team in a span of a week and ran into a bad match up.

Westbrook had been extremely healthy his entire career until last years playoffs, so they had basically no experience of playing without him.

Hedo was arguably the best player during their playoff run, and Rashaed Lewis was actually good then too. He wasn't playing with scrubs

Running the pick and roll with Howard was unstoppable.

I guess I'm saying what have Hedo and Rashard Lewis ever done besides that year?

Well, besides Hedo being a role player early in his career with those Kings teams.

Durant is no doubt a stud and is probably in the same league as LBJ etc, but he fell short last season and hasn't won anything without Westbrook (Who is a top 10 player when healthy) by his side

LeBron hadn't won anything without wade/bosh...

And that's also for the guy saying kobe isn't a center piece

For being a 'jumpshooter,' Durant sure does get to the FT line a lot (9.7 FTA per game). BTW, that's good enough for #1 in the NBA.
