Really? How the frick can you possibly say some stupid shite like that? I know for a fact that Matty Ott and Joe Broussard just played regular old school ball @ Holy Cross and neither of them were noticed until their junior years.

The problem is that it seems like everyone is playing baseball these days to get that coveted slot on a high school team or a college team... and they feel like playing baseball for baseball's sake is a WASTE OF TIME.

this might be parents but parents are stupid. The kids that want to play, just want to play.

And the problem... particularly in Baton Rouge... is that this attitude is ruining "casual" baseball in order to over-serve the allegedly "elite" players in the sport.

This isn't an argument that bears mentioning in this thread though. If I want to play against kids who share my desires and ambition, then what do I care about the kids who want to pick boogers and play 12 games a year?

what did they do in the summers, and what did they do before they got to HS?

Again, HS ball and then summer ball are two completely separate things. You don't do one or the either, you do both.

Before they got to high school isn't the debate here. I'm pretty close to the HC family during the summer you play Legion WITH YOUR SCHOOL.

Matty Ott played for the St Bernard Rangers when he was 12 and 13 and the St Bernard Titans when he was 14. Just looked it up on USSSA website.

Think before trying to call me out like that.

the disconnect in this entire scenario comes from the parents wishes vs. the kid's wishes.

Kid wants to play and get better and better, he will and will probably get his scholarship somewhere.

Kid is just going through the motions cause his parent are making him, he's going to go nowhere.

Before high school isn't the issue here. Also, no one at LSU knew who Matty was before his junior year.

the frick it isn't the issue. It's actually EXACTLY the issue that's been raised in this thread. 9 yrs old is before HS. As is 12 yrs old.

dont put down kids who want to better thamselves.

There wasn't a single place in any of my posts where I did this. The process, maybe, but never will I speak down on kids, including college athletes.

quote:

beat up on a team that has kids picking flowers in the outfield that accomplishes nothing

This where we have become off. I believe the OP was about an 8 or 9 year old playing travel ball. At this age, I believe it is ridiculous to have a travel team. However, the "flower pickers" are usually gone by this age.

When a child gets in his teens, and it is becoming more evident that he will be trying to further himself in the sport, then playing some type of travel ball would be helpful. But I also believe that there is no rec ball after 13 or 14, correct? So travel would be the only way to go.

quote:

btw i have NO kid that plays travel ball anymore I do it because I like teaching the kids

I applaude you for still giving your time to help kids become better athletes, even after your kids have moved on. BTW, do any of yours kids still play ball anywhere (College, etc)?

Travel baseball is the title of the thread and travel baseball ends at 14. They have "showcase" travel teams for high school age kids.

I don't really give a shite about that really. I was mainly responding to the coach of the 16yr old traveling team coach thinking that's the only way to get your kid known to college coaches. Ott and Broussard both played with Holy Cross from the age of 15 till the graduated and neither was noticed until their junior year.

When I was 13 I had a year where I didn't do travel ball and went back to normal city shite. It was miserable. Mostly all 'flower pickers'. I hated life.

So again, it's about a kid's desires. I would've been up for anything at age 8-9.

That is false

Broussard was homeschooled before hc and was highly touted before first game at hc

Think his soph yr was his first
