If I were SIs editor, I wouldn't have hired him in the first place. He's had credibility issues everywhere he's been.

Thamel is one of the worst "journalists" out there. All he does is throw shite in the air and hope something pans out.

Thamel is ground zero. People assumed he checked into the situation and yes I would let wojo go, but if I were in charge of ESPN there would be TONS of layoffs

Yes, absolutely. Particularly those at the SBT.

I mean, they're (Thamel, Woj., etc.) the ones who enabled and promoted this tear-jerking sob story. They should be held accountable for reporting completely false information and not confirming the facts of their story.

As long as Thayer Evans continues finding work, there will always be a spot for Thamel somewhere

Doubt it. They showed they were fricking idiots when they hired the cocksucker to start with. His next stop should be the National Enquirer. And take his fudge packing buddy Thayer Evans with him.

They're all good old boys looking out for each other. Bruce Feldman admitted he is tight with Thamel and has a decent relationship with Wojo, and essentially backed them. It seemed like Forde ran cover for them, too, with his last few articles.

Thamel's loose explanation of factchecking in yesterday's article was a joke. Bottom line is he didn't let a lack of information get in the way of his awesome story... no other way to put it.

But he won't get fired for this.

Isn't Thamel the guy who was harrassing TM7?

I alluded to this in Owlie's thread. It's pretty apparent that all these guys are friends. Some used to work together at ESPN. But for the most part, they all cover all the same events together. They go on each other's podcasts, etc.

The only one I'm surprised to see defend Thamel is Feldman. He's the only one I thought was better than that. The rest are pretty much scumbags IMO.

Definitely. And any other reporter who wrote about this sad girlfriend story without confirming she actually existed.

"Professionals" like Peter King are behind Thamel too:

@SI_PeterKing: And for those crucifying @SIPeteThamel, crucify me too. He's tremendous. I back him uneqivocally.

Pretty sure Peter Kings not above reproach. Don't know if I would want his endorsement.

x 1000

He's rumored to have paid sources for "stories" and is one of the biggest hacks out there. Unfortunately no one in his profession is going to call him out for it and risk being isolated.

He's the personification of the downfall of sports journalism. I can't even begin to get into how much I hate that asshat.
