Tonight is a perfect example of why boxing is fading

Yeah, yeah. Record purse and all that jazz.
When I was a kid, these big fights came on regular tv all the time. Generations of kids got exposed to boxing. Now it's all pay per view at ridiculous prices or you have to go to bars. Grab the quick buck and forget about developing fans.
Wonder why they are tuning in instead to ultimate fighting.

Ultimate foghting makes you pay for the big fights too. Plus Boxing is on HBO and Showtime all the time. Find something else to bitch about, one of the biggest fights of all time, of course they are gonna cash in. There just isnt any big names in boxing anymore.

Because you have to pay big bucks to watch any of the big time fighters fight. Boxing does a very poor job of promoting their stars IMO.

No one pays for WM we pay $9.99 a month and get all the pay per views

Wrestlemania doesn't cost $100 for a PPV.

Yes, but they have deep enough talent to give away a ton of free cards every year and also have the Ultimate Fighter show that reaches younger audiences there. On top of that they have fox sports1 as a partner that shows a ton of Old UFC footage and greatest fights

How many kids are even allowed to watch HBO/show time? And a ton of people don't have it at all
Their business model and strategy is amazing. Boxing is an uncontrollable corruption mess of shite

OP is at least somewhat right.
Kids used to talk about the boxing and boxes like Muhammad Ali like they talk about basketball and LeBron James.
It's not like that anymore because kids aren't watching matches like they used to.

quote:Huge difference. I'll pay the $9.99 or whatever I pay per month for EVERY pay per view throughout the year of WWE over a one time payment of $100 per one huge boxing.

it costs $60 though (unless you subscribe), and it is a yearly event. this is a one time huge boxing event.
i dont think the PPV price is that outrageous.

There are very few places showing the fight. Bars have to pay $5000 to air the fight, so the smaller places can't afford to pay it. You need a couple hundred people to come for them to even make it worth their while.

bullshite
the big mega fights were essentially PPV via closed circuit TV starting in the 60s

I am in my 50's and you are right. The only time a fight was seen on network tv was on ABC Wide World of Sports about a month after the fight.
The real reason is the heavyweight division is lacking any talent and characters.
I watched the Klitschko fight last weekend and he may be the most boring fighter ever. He has done what he needs to win and keep the championship but the only excitement in the fight was when Jennings was working to get inside.
I can imagine a title fight between the Klitschko brothers would put the crowd to sleep.

I hope this fight lasts 3 rounds so that this bullshite corrupt sport fades away completely, and I'm not even a UFC fan.

Just had this conversation with a buddy last night. We're both in our 40's and can remember watching boxing on Saturdays on ABC and CBS. Pay-per-view money is great but what kind of $$$ would have this fight pulled for a network deal? Seriously, this thing is being hyped to Super Bowl levels. I bet it was uld have commanded huge TV money and helped popularize the sport in the process.

Then why have the ratings for boxing been good? Why is it that a lop sided heavyweight fight between two people no one really cares about in America sold out Madison Square Garden and nearly got 2 million views on premium television (HBO)?

So you don't like unfethered Capitalism that Boxing is? Why do you hate Capitalism?

Wrestlemania also really isn't discussed the day before or the day after by normal people.
Meanwhile, this PPV is the talk of the country all weekend, despite NBA playoffs, Baltimore, the KY Derby, etc. It's a big deal in a way that PPV wrestling definitely isn't, especially these days.

It is $100 for the manny/pac PPV. I know that cause I paid it, but it's getting split with some work friends.
