We knew he was leaving ESPN, but I guess he's just done altogether.

Tom Jackson spent 14 years in the NFL. He more than doubled that at ESPN.
After 29 years, Jackson is retiring. ESPN announced Jackson’s decision on Wednesday.
“I have been blessed in my adult life to work for two companies, the Denver Broncos and ESPN, to do two things that I love — play football and talk about football,” Jackson said. “Having joined in the early stages of ESPN and remained with the same company for 29 years is especially gratifying. The friendships made are too numerous to mention but I know that many of them will last a lifetime. I also want to thank all the fans who supported me over the years and made my job so enjoyable. This move just comes at a time when the priority of my life is spending time with my family.”
Jackson went straight from the Broncos to ESPN, joining the network the first year that it acquired NFL broadcast rights, with half of the Sunday night schedule. In the days before YouTube and cell phone devices, ESPN’s prime-time highlight show was appointment viewing for ardent NFL fans, with Berman, Jackson, and Pete Axthelm providing the kind of in-depth footage and discussion on NFL Sundays that simply otherwise didn’t exist.

He probably got tired of all the weenies/socialists at ESPN.

I remember the days when I watched ESPN and it was actually watchable. Long gone are those days.
ESPN should just show games, golf tournaments, matches, etc. 24/7. The rest of the programming has become garbage.

I mean, I doubt anyone was gonna pick him up after ESPN dumped him

Lol.
Good for him though. Had a great run. Time to step aside. Hell do radio or a podcast.
ESPN shift should have began with Berman stepping aside. Maybe just work off camera.

I remember the days when people used to post this in ESPN threads...
Oh wait, this still happens multiple times in every single ESPN thread

He's one of the few I actually liked. Seemed like a genuine good guy.

Tom Jackson was a middling NFL player for Denver teams that no one will ever confuse with being among the greats.
His 'reporting' was so far below average that at the top of his obit will be his wildly off-base observations in 2003 that the Patriots all hated Bill Belichick and were going to tank the season. Of course, they went on to win the Super Bowl that year, solidifying the continuation of what was/is one of the most durable and dynastic runs that any NFL team has had.
"I respect Tom Jackson, but that is one of the stupidest things I ever heard," Patriots safety Rodney Harrison said Monday. "He has no idea what we think about Belichick."

if you havent noticed ESPN is dumping all the big money contracts when they're coming due, theyre beginning to see declining revenues im sure with all the cord cutters.

Tom may or may not have given Linda Cohn the BBC on the SportsCenter desk circa 1992

ESPN lost a good one.
I really liked Jackson. ESPN is horrible now. It was watchable before but it sucks something awful right now.

how often are the other personalities wrong on ESPN with crazier speculations?
that wasn't even that far fetched.. ESPN has speculated far worse crap.
any ways, it's not always about being a great analyst.. sometimes it's nice to have a likable character on the set. i never took their opinions very seriously. especially chris carter and early on keyshawn johnson. keyshawn got better though and I actually have turned to like him.
don't watch ESPN any more though so I have no idea who is even left.

Jackson was awesome. Bummer to see him go.

I used to stay up as a teen and watch NFL Primetime every Sunday evening from 6-7:30 and just wait for the Saints highlights. Him and Berman were fun to listen to, the music was awesome and it was just straight highlights. That was the best of ESPN. Those days are over.

I enjoyed watching him show the highlights with Berman back in the day. Makes sense for him to hang it up with his sidekick gone.

Amen to that. I hate what NFL Primetime has turned into now. Berman and Jackson were perfect together.
