I'm not a Phil hater, but what does he have to gain throwing former captains under the bus on the eve of the Ryder Cup. You can bet Sergio, Rory and the rest of the Euros are laughing their asses off in their team room at Phil being Phil.

Yeah, their laughing because Phil is speaking the truth. The "arrogant Americans" is more about the captains than the players. "Hey, I've got Phil and Tiger, let me pair them and we have guaranteed wins, no problem."

And that is just poor leadership and downright laziness.

If throwing captains under the bus fixes their shite style leadership going forward, then Phil did exactly what he is trying to accomplish. Good.

I firmly believe in players having input in this style of a "team" format in what is really an individual sport. And any coach unwilling to allow player input needs to recuse himself.

Phil needs to speak his mind to DL3 behind closed doors in the US team room, not in the press center in front of world wide media.

Not a Phil hater just think he should have kept those comments to himself. No reason to throw people under the bus. Just my opinion on it.

Did you see Hal's interview? His excuse for pairing Tiger/Phil was to get them to like each other like Arnie/Jack. That is some bush league bullshite when trying to win a Ryder Cup.

Phil is 100% spot on by saying USA captains need to put players in positions to have a chance to win.

Sorry the truth hurts. frick captains personal agendas. It's about giving your players the best chance to win. Period!

The only reason that the Europeans are better is that they play match play more often coming up. You hardly ever play match play coming up in the us. I think they should change it up and have a two day stroke play tournament with all competitors and awarding points based on the position finished. Then finish it up with two days of match play including teams and individual matches. It would allow strengths of each team to shine and also not allow players 9-12 to be marginalized.

I didn't see the interview & I don't need to see it.

Phil needs to shut his fricking mouth in front of the press and go out and win some points. If the USA wins the RC then he can talk all he wants.

That's most likely not true. Toms will almost for sure be the RC Captain in 2018. The person who got screwed over was Larry Nelson.

I doubt the Europeans will sit anyone for all 4 team events, let alone multiple people. In 99, when Mark James did that for them it was an absolute disaster.

You're in denial.

No he doesn't. He is a professional with vast accomplishments and rightly ripped Watson for his arrogance. This year he spoke of an example of the importance of a captain and that happened to be Sutton. Again, Phil was right demonstrating to all future captains of NEEDING their players input.

Shot across the bow to future captains? Damn straight.

America wants to keep being arrogant and ignorant, then be like like Watson and Sutton....and keep losing.

This is not college, nor is it a true team sport. You need your players input. Phil is emphasizing that fact. Good.

I doubt it. This new task force was designed with a system in mind so that future captains would be involved in the process as assistant or vice captains. My guess is that one of the vice captains will be captain in 2018.

Absolutely. He trashed Tom Watson 2 years ago, he trashed the US captains pick process a week ago, and he trashed Hal Sutton for something he did a dozen years ago. He's an attention whore. He thinks he's being smart and revealing for the media when he's actually shoveling mud on people at a time where its not appropriate. Good thing he was never captained by Arnie because he'd have probably trashed Arnie this week too

I know what individual sports are and what team sports are. Track & Field is similar to golf. It's an individual sport. But for golf, once every 2 years for one week it becomes a team event. However, the coach must work with each player to utilize their strengths for the better of the team.

Think track relay event. Some sprinters run turns better than straights. Some sprinters need more steps in their exchange zones. Some sprinters start faster than others. A coach cannot be so rigid as to tell every sprinter they must mark off 25 steps from the exchange zone and/or necessarily put your fastest man on anchor when he is your best out the blocks.

Every track coach will work with each sprinter to find their comfort zone and effectiveness to maximize the relay team's chance to win.

Same strategy should be used by Ryder cup captains. If they want to do things their way without working with each player, then the chance of winning goes down. Phil was/is right.

Holy shite. You see Danny Willett's brother's (PJ Willett) rant on the US fans/team? Recall, if you will, his twitter stream/rant during the Masters. Talked a LOT of noise regarding Speith. Yeah, same dude.

Good luck this weekend, Danny. Sorry if one of those D batteries from the crowd hits you in the head.

quote:

They need to silence the pudgy, basement-dwelling, irritants, stuffed on cookie dough and pissy beer, pausing between mouthfuls of hotdog so they can scream 'Baba booey' until their jelly faces turn red.
They need to stun the angry, unwashed, Make America Great Again swarm, desperately gripping their concealed-carry compensators and belting out a mini-erection inducing 'mashed potato,' hoping to impress their cousin.
They need to smash the obnoxious dads, with their shiny teeth, Lego man hair, medicated ex-wives, and resentful children. Squeezed into their cargo shorts and boating shoes, they'll bellow 'get in the hole' whilst high-fiving all the other members of the Dentists' Big Game Hunt Society.

Well, OK then. But there's more!
quote:

Darren Clarke needs to pick his pairs carefully, they need to support each other intelligently, and the crowd needs to be dealt with swiftly.
If these things happen, Europe will win, and I'll try to support gracefully by embracing the same sense of fair-mindedness that has permeated this unbiased article. If not, the Americans will claim their second victory this century... those fat, stupid, greedy, classless, bastards.

Ha. FTMF'er.

They just showed this on the golf channel. This guy was heckling the euros today at their practice round saying they wouldn't make this putt so Rose pulls him out of the crowd and slaps $100 bill on the green saying he wouldn't make it.
