Ok, he was naked but found weed and paraphernalia on him. So, where were the drugs?

you may discover one day that every son (and dgt) ultimately make their own choices. parents make mistakes and sometimes severe ones but the responsibility for conforming to societies norms (as far as legal, work ethic, etc) to up to the individual. I have seen awfully bad parents end up with very good kids and vice versa. once a person hits 21-25 years it's time for their own brain to kick in and it usually does.
Basically you are spot on with your assessment. But Marinovich was raised in a house with no clue what normal was. From the day he was born he was raised to be a QB at USC. I remember a story about him that his mother would go with him to birthday parties and while the other kids were eating birthday cake his mom brought along some fufu cake that she thought was more healthy . It's no wonder that when he finally left home for college he went nuts.
I'm just surprised he's not dead now.
He's a sad waste of talent.

Yeah, I remember reading that Robo-QB article in SI years ago...
quote:
Indeed, it has been—and almost certainly will continue to be—a difficult life at USC for Marinovich, who burst upon the world of college football during his hysteria-filled recruitment in the winter of 1988 (SI, Feb. 22, 1988). Almost every football-playing college in the U.S. made a pitch for him. Schools begged. Got on their knees and pleaded. It was not only Marinovich's ability that attracted attention, but also the fact that he was born and bred to be a quarterback. Every decision regarding his young life was made with one goal in mind: that Todd grow up to be a quarterback. Included was the food his mother, Trudi, consumed while Todd was in the womb.
Project Marinovich was engineered by Marv, an offensive lineman at USC and co-captain of the 1962 national champions. He was the prototypical stage father. In most ways, Marv didn't have a life. He had Todd's life. In 1987, Marv and Trudi were divorced. "I had a captive audience," says Marv. "I told him when to eat, what to eat, when to go to bed, when to get up, when to work out, how to work out. Now I have a hard time getting him on the telephone. He seems to be leading a life-style that is wearing. The interviews, missing meals, bad sleeping habits. Things are just starting to slip. I told him, 'You are making bad decisions, but I can't make them for you anymore.' He went directly from an environment where everything was regimented to a totally open door."
Marinovich stares at the ground, then slowly looks up. "Man, it's tough every day to live up to the image of the all-American boy who has never eaten a Big Mac," he says. "And I do get tired of people looking at me funny. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with it."

This story doesnt make sense. If he was naked how can he be carrying and have additional periphinelia. Bs story.

Hallinan said that Marinovich, an Irvine resident, was in a backyard of a home on Bluecoat: “He was carrying the items in a brown bag.”
There's always at least one person that doesn't read the article. This thread has multiple lazy people.

Unfortunately this is pretty common to a certain extent. My mother and her sister weren't allowed to have friends or socialize growing up. She got spawned once for playing with the neigbor's kids. My mother did t go on a date until she turned 21 ad moved to the US from Europe (she was a an Air Force brat). When her and her sister got over here, they became hippies.

You can't completely absolve Marinovich of his own decisions though. There are plenty of people that grow up in strict households that don't lose their shite when they have freedom.
