And saying similar to that, such as "It all will boil down to which team wants to win more". I am pretty sure both want to win the game equally.

Definitely one of the dumbest cliches out there.

Feels like we always have to blame blame blame, we can't ever just recognize that one team played better than the other on a given night.

Disagree. When one team is being aggressive defensively and diving for every loose ball while the other team is passive and lacks hustle, I would say one team wants it more.

No, you're wrong. Hustle and concentration score a lot of points/stop a lot of points. Wanting it makes a big difference. If yoI've even played pickup ball you know this.

It's overused, but does happen at times.

Anyone that has played sports knows that this is true. I was apart of some good teams that lost games we shouldn't because the other team wanted it more and we went through the motions.

Not even close to being true in many cases.

when this happens I would argue that both still want the game pretty equally. Just one went through the motions, perhaps because they thought they would win beforehand, or any other of a variety of reasons.

When a team does the bolded, they do not want it as badly as the team that goes beyond merely going through the motions.

Come on, bruh

Going through the motions is the suggestion that someone doesn't want it.

I agree with Downhill but racer.

That might be the only sport where this stupid phrase applies.

You can approach it in a safer manner compared to a less safe manner (and that might not even be true in reality) maybe we think it is because some go out of control.

Franz Klamer...

But where speed is everything...and speed is danger, ignoring danger is maybe those areas of sport where this phrase could possibly apply.

You can be timid in a lot of sports - and not want it as much - when death is on the line.

What's wrong with this? Just refers to a player that might not be the most athletic player on the court, but plays within himself. Maybe where one player is good on the boards is because he simply can jump higher than everyone else, while the player refered to above might be one that gets into position and blocks out correctly, using his body to shield the defender off.

I RA'd yours as well on account of yuh being racist by assuming certain players are only athletic and others aren't as athletic and have superior basketball IQ.

Like Charles Barkley and Dennis Rodman?

But you're racist...
