Watching the U.S. in the World Cup is awesome

Its really not

Don't you realize winning one match, then tying one and losing two is awesome?

This is the entire world cup experience for every American...

Tournament starts...

Tournament ends.

What do you expect when you have a 39 year old goaltender. Of course this is what happens

You would be surprised at how many countries are actually not that big in soccer.

I mean, I've grown to love soccer, and it is definitely the most popular sport in the world, but it's the most popular sport in a very clear sense for about 3 of the 10 biggest countries in the world (Brazil, Nigeria, and Russia). Maybe Indonesia can be thrown in there as well, but it's not a clear #1 there by any means.

Its perception as the global sporting behemoth is, probably in no small part, due to the legacy of the British Empire. Ad dollars and eyeballs are so huge for soccer because it's the most popular sport in virtually all of the middle- and upper-income economies (sans the U.S. and a couple of others), but it will be interesting to see how that might change in the next thirty years.

Late to the party, but quite the embarrassing loss. Not only does a country of 300 million fail to qualify against Caribbean and Latin American countries, but this really sets soccer back quite a bit in the United States.

The problem is skill and that our players haven't been playing together since they were 8. Much more systemic than one coach

Well it was on the road, in front of a hostile crowd of 60, and noise from a generator.

Jurgen was why we were on the brink of not qualifying. Arena out performed him

It should have never come down to this game. Jurgens failure led to these stakes

This is a bad take. Jurgen lost @ Costa Rica and vs. Mexico. Was promptly fired, and replaced by someone who took 4 points from final 12, including losing @ Trinidad, home vs. Costa Rica. Now which of those sides look worse?

I've tried watching soccer and it's so fricking boring. Regardless, pretty telling and embarrassing we can't field a fricking qualifying team. There's always 2022.
