This is exactly what most Titans fans didn't want.

We'll see how it plays out but the front office still has to get butts in the seats. Titans fans are sick of mediocrity and the empty seats are becoming a bigger problem.

Shitty QB isn't gonna fix that.

My family's seats are filled every home game.

I wish we could've traded back but I'm all for giving Mariota a shot at this. We'll continue to be mediocre or worse until we find a franchise QB. That's the league we're in now.

Let me guess... You're like the rest of the sheep who says "but Locker, Vince Young! Titans so dumb!"

You can only judge Mariota by what Mariota does, not from the ghosts of former picks. They have nothing to do with Marcus Mariota and his attempt at becoming a franchise QB.

I think Mariota is going to suck in the NFL.

Good post. He could just as easily be McNair as Young or Locker.

Awesome. I'm glad you have NFL front office job.

Look, nobody here has any clue. It's nice to log onto a forum and act you have scouting experience but nobody here does. Even the guys who are paid to know are often wrong. You simply cannot say he won't succeed because past Oregon QB's haven't and Young and Locker didn't either. He was in freakin middle school when Young was drafted for Gods Sake.

McNair had a WHOLE lot more talent around him.

Could we not go get a top RB/OT next year?

Pretty sure all of the pieces weren't in place right when McNair was selected either.

It has nothing to do with Young and Locker. Show me the spread option QB who has come in and rocked the NFL. I don't think he has NFL arm strength. I don't think he's ever had to sit in the pocket and make deadly accurate throws to covered receivers like NFL QBs have to do sometimes. He is gonna have a very big transition to make. I'm not sure how well it'll turn out.

I have never said I have any sort of scouting experience. I think this because I have never seen a QB from an offense like that make a successful transition to the NFL and I don't believe he is a transcendent enough talent to be the first.

Oregons offense is much more than being a simple spread option a la Auburn's. Many scouts have noted that they were surprised at how complex many of the route trees are in that play book and how complex some of the reads were for Mariota.

I agree it's not the traditional systems you would prefer to see a college QB play in but I think he would've been successful in one of those traditional systems as well. He actually has been very good when in the pocket. I'm not a scout but those that are decided he was worth the risk and has solid potential to become a franchise QB.

Will it work out? Not even experts know for sure. How about we wait and let his play tell us?

Cam newton won Offensive Rookie of the Year his rookie season and broke every rookie QB record.

His second season in the league he led the NFL in yards per completion and was second in yards per attempt.

Got the Panthers to the playoffs in his third season including a first round bye. Set another record by becoming the only QB in league history to have 4 games with over 200 yards passing, over 80 yards rushing, multiple passing TD's, and a rushing TD in one season.

Panthers win back-to-back division titles and are the only team in the NFC South to win 2 division titles in a row. Won the franchises first playoff game in 9 years. Tied Randall Cunningham and Mike Vick as the only NFL QB's to have 4 seasons of over 500yds rushing. He is already tied at 10th in number of rushing TD's by a QB with 33. Over the last four years Tom Brady is the only QB to record more wins in the month of December than Cam Newton.

If you think a QB from a spread option offense can't be successful in the NFL, you need to quit watching football.
