Middlebrooks certainly interfered by definition.

The behind the runner terminology isn't really that hard to understand. Even if its not commonly used, you should be able to understand it, provided you don't have your head in your arse, which some of you do it seems.

do you know what the word behind means?

I'll give you a hint, it doesn't mean ahead

That's right. They were all using it incorrectly. No offense.

Back on topic, I don't have a problem with his decision to throw to third. The third baseman should've caught the ball.

In baseball if you get caught in a rundown, you look for a defender to run into to get the obstruction call...in this case, Middlebrooks was the target, Craig did a great job running into him.

I wonder if Middlebrooks had just laid there if he'd gotten hit with the interference.

I still can't believe Salty threw that ball. But catchers at all levels of baseball seem like they feed off emotion too much at times.

Salty is seeing a hobbling Craig headed to 3rd...he knows he's got to shoot him!

If Craig stumbles over him on purpose, he gets the obstruction call every time. We train our players to find that interference call in a rundown...Craig did.

With a better throw he could've gotten the runner out IMO. No problem with his decision to throw that ball.

Yea, I don't mind the throw to 3rd.

Back to this stupid behind the runner throw argument.

An example of this would be a strike and then the catcher threw to first if a runner was too far off the base

What Salty did is in no way a 'throw behind the runner'.

Great play by Pedroia though

Definitely.

1242 is a good kid in a fine baseball environment here in Dallas, and the way he saw it, Salty threw the ball with Craig already safe at third (behind the runner). But the way I saw it, Salty should have shot Craig's crippled arse (ahead of the runner)

In the midst of the "behind the runner" slap fight, I was just about to come post this. DP made a fantastic play on that ball on the tweener hop going away from him.

Throwing error to third. Base path obstruction by third baseman. Runner safe at home. Game over.

Kozma. So if Salty hangs on to the ball there, it's free baseball.
