They don't have a lot of room with the half arse ACC deal, Navy, USC, and I think MSU is back on there soon. I do miss it, even though it sucks having the season destroyed early by ND.

its kinda crazy how they have a legit series with so many mid western schools

Please God, no.
I'd rather play someone interesting that we don't normally see. I know we got the Texas, UGA, Ohio State and A&M series on line because we were able to free up some schedule room. More of that, please.
Maybe in ten years.

Weather. I can't blame ND for wanting to schedule as many fall west coast games as possible.

MSU is just coming back on for two years (17 and 18). We've got UT (15 and 16...were also supposed to do 19 and 20 but we backed out because Patterson and Swarbrick hate each other), MSU (16 and 17), UGA (17 and 19), Purdue (20 and 21), Ohio State (22 and 23), and Texas A&M (24 and 25). Those are with the annual five ACC games, the USC series, the Stanford series, and the Navy series.
Maybe it could work in 2020 and 2021, but we already have five away games in 20 and already play @ Florida State, @ Virginia Tech, and @ Stanford in 2021. Maybe Stanford will start really sucking again by then.

I'm surprised Ohio St. and ND haven't found each other more often. They've only played 5 times. Given their relative proximity, success, and ND's long history with a number of Big 10 teams, it's interesting that they haven't crossed paths more.

I am thinking how ND thought they were getting an easy W when they scheduled Baylor for a neutral site game in Tex, so they could recruit Tex.
Now they are facing a 45 to 44 game.
Mich is starting to look better and better.

Well, a lot of the Big Ten black-balled ND and wouldn't play us for a very long time thanks to efforts by Fielding Yost. OSU played us twice in the 1930's, and I'm sure that didn't go over particularly well with their conference brethren.
It's one of the reasons we had such long-standing series with Purdue and Michigan State - they were willing to break the freeze out when the others weren't (though to be fair, MSU wasn't in the Big Ten until 1950).
After Big Ten teams started playing us more regularly in the 1950's and 1960's, we just never really had much reason to play them, and they really never had much reason to play us.

We don't play Baylor.

They played twice in the 30s, twice in the 90s, and the 2006 Fiesta Bowl.

They pick their big 10 teams well.

The series I liked as a kid in the 80s was Notre Dame & Penn State. Three times in 4 years the winner ended up playing for the national title.

I don't think Woody wanted to play ND and his reign at OSU basically lasted for three decades. He didn't want to alienate Catholic fans in Ohio who liked both teams. There are also stories of him pushing kids to go to ND if he felt OSU was out of the running and it seemed like the recruit was a Michigan lean.
