Teams barely have a roster these days with the portal opening in early December. Bowl games as we know it will change bigly in the near future.

It’s a fair argument on their part and I agree. No need for some teams to play in THREE bowl games in a season. Just do the first two rounds at home of higher seed, then the final 4 is exactly the same as now and it’s perfect.

Really haven’t given a care about the minor bowls in many years as there are way too many. The playoffs though will be exciting and fun.

I was as well and do not remember “too many bowls” being a common complaint until the number exploded in the 2000s. There were 15 bowls in 1980 20 in 2000 and 35 by 2010

In any event, past complaints if they existed do not invalidate new ones.
Originally I responded to someone who said bowl games were great before there were opt outs. I mentioned that many have complained about too many Bowles for decades...hence they were all so great.

I wasn't trying to I validate complaints that there are too many bowl games these days, because there are. In fact, there is nothing compelling about any of the bowls today, nor would there have been for any bowl played about this time of the year decades ago.

Ah yes, I long for the days of the micronPC.com Bowl. That's when bowl games meant something.

And I was quibbling with your use of decades. I don’t think there were many complaints about too many bowls in the late 90s/early 2000s. I mean there’s always someone, I’m sure there was some geezer that complained when they expanded from 4 to 5

But it did mean something even in the 90s. When LSU made the Poulan Weedeater Independence bowl in DiNardo’s first season people were genuinely excited. We made it again 2 years later against Notre Dame, both teams were ranked. Obviously the situation for LSU is very different now but would other schools be excited making a bowl after not for several years?

The other thing I know some have mentioned is the matchups. It’s always this bowl is SEC B1G or SEC ACC yawn

Gonna take something better than the shitshow we saw from them the last time they played.

Eh, we both know that they're not gonna play that bad again for a long time.

I don’t get why some of you hate bowl games so much. Just don’t watch them.

I can remember when the PAC teams were only allowed to play in the Rose Bowl, which did not change until 1975. The Big-10 also prohibited teams from appearing games other than the Rose Bowl. As a result, you had top-10 teams in the PAC and Big-10 that didn’t appear in post-season bowl games. The Big-10 also had a no repeat clause for the Rose Bowl.

I couldn’t watch most of them if I wanted to. But I don’t like them because it cheapens the overall product and is a big part of the reason we get so many crap games all season. 3-4 of 12 games for some teams. Plus all these former FCS teams moving up. I’d rather watch James Madison and ODUs of the world in the FCS playoffs than in some garbage bowl on a Tuesday at 300pm
