They should be. If fans accept being mediocre than that's exactly what they'll get. My beloved Gamecocks were like that for over 100 years. We wanted to be good, we loved our team, but we accepted that we were just an average program at best. I understand that expecting to win may lead to impatience that can hurt the program, but trust me, Michigan won't be able to return to its powerhouse status if it accepts its current mediocrity.

1. Bandwagoners
2. ND fans that think ND is not talked about enough
3. This team is my football school, this is my basketball school (alum of at most 1 of these)

Correct. You have to fire them every year to get results. And then fire them after you get results.

quote:Meh. I get tired of fans who try to be "realistic" to the point that they don't even seem like fans of their team anymore. Not everyone has to be a reporter. Be a fan and let yourself believe that your team can win the big game. It's not going to hurt anyone and it's going to make the game more fun to watch.
Everybody knows that Ohio State will beat Michigan handily on Saturday, everybody except blowhard Michigan fans that is.

The most annoying for me is the guy that played JV hs football and thinks he knows more than the coach.
This. And when someone like this gets a local radio talk show and starts acting like he knows what it takes to be a D-I athlete or coach.

That's what I was saying. Because Michigan fans expect to win it leads to impatience. But if they don't expect to win then they'd be content with mediocrity.
SC finally did what it had to do. Hired a legendary coach that we'd look forever stupid if we fired, had no choice but to be patient to see if it panned out or not.

eta: This is exactly how I feel. Born and raised a Gamecock fan so you can imagine how many games I've gone into knowing our mismatched we were, but that didn't stop me from coming up with some scenario in my head about how we were going to win.
If my predictions were correct South Carolina should have been undefeated for the last 23 years.

I hate people who thinks someone has to do research to be a fan. If a guy thinks his alma mater is going to win every game and gets enjoyment just sitting down for 3 hours each Saturday with no other consumption of college football... who is he hurting? If he enjoys himself, what's wrong with that?
People enjoy things different ways.
