I wouldn't be surprised at all if LA signs Durant or Westbrook.

So, the Lakers are going to fill the roster with 1 year contracts next season?

Yeah, okay

It is incredibly revealing IMO when some Kobe fans can't see this point. Kobe's contract took the Lakers off the table when it came to starting a rapid rebuild with players like Dwight Howard, Lebron James, Paul George, Chris Bosh, or Carmello Anthony. Howard probably did have a me or Kobe attitude, and he's an unlikable prick at times, but he was a smarter investment. Even if you hated Howard too much to stomach it seems obvious that Kobe's contract and associated issues removed the Lakers from consideration by Lebron among others.

There wasn't room to even theoretically sign two max contracts from the free agent pool because of Kobe's contract... even if there were any major stars potentially interested in working with an aging star with diminishing abilities and difficulty playing well with others.

The Lakers made a choice, to let Kobe play 20 full seasons as a Laker instead of moving on in a positive direction two years sooner. It is an understandable bit of nostalgia that other major franchises like the 80s Celtics also found themselves doing... but it sets your franchise back when you do things based on emotion or nostalgia instead of rational decision making.

none of these guys were coming to the lakers. Yes, the contract was terrible, but the truth is it hasn't really screwed the Lakers up that bad. The lakers will reload real soon IMO.

Money to lure away AD?

That would be crazy if they could find away around the leagues salary cap rules and pay AD more than the Pels could!!!

disagree probably across the board

Lebron wouldn't even do a sit down with the Lakers when he was available. Carmello obviously wanted a better option but defaulted back to the Knicks for lack of another major media market that made sense. Chris Bosh seemed very serious about Houston so I don't think he was set on returning to a diminished Heat roster. George supposedly was very put off by the idea of co-existing with Kobe and therefore ruled out the Lakers.

we had no chance with lebron or the others. melo was always going to stay in NY because of the money. paul was going to stay in indy. we could have possibly lured chris but at that point, the team is still a mess and we dont have the financial flexibility that we will have in the upcoming offseasons to lure away russell westbrook and KD

working on nostalgia would be giving him another contract equal to the one he just got. the contract he was given has done absolute shite to keep us from acquiring legit top talent. we never we going to do so last offseason for a multitude of obvious reasons, and his contract does absolute shite to keep us from acquiring top talent in the upcoming offseasons.

because the Lakers didn't choose him over Kobe

because Kobe was there. You really think with Kobe gone at least one and probably more than one doesn't want to be there as a star in the most glamorous franchise in basketball?

the over 36 rule prohibits more than a two year extension. It would have been impossible for the Lakers to do a longer contract (which most Lakers fans should probably be grateful for IMO).

After he is gone? I agree. Until he leaves? No. He's in the Jordan on the Wizards phase of his career arc.
