frick on the roster, how many are still in the league?

ETA: Richardson and Manziel likely never play another down and Weeden is on the wrong side of 30 and third on the Texans depth chart behind.....Tom Savage.

Gilbert's been mediocre at best in his first two seasons, as well.

For comparison, here's the Saints 2011-2014 1st round picks:
2011-Cam Jordan
2011-Mark Ingram
2012-traded for Mark Ingram
2013-Kenny Vacarro
2014-Brandin Cooks

as bad as we've drafted lately, at least we still have 4 starters from that period.

We do ok in the first round, but beyond that, we fail.

Really?

The complaint I've always heard is that we don't draft well in the first round.

meh, we've actually had much more hits than misses this millennium:

Deuce McAllister
Donte Stallworth
Charles Grant
Jonathan Sullivan
Will Smith
Jammal Brown
Reggie Bush
Robert Meachem
Sedrick Ellis
Malcolm Jenkins
Patrick Robinson
Cam Jordan
Mark Ingram
Kenny Vaccaro
Brandin Cooks
Andrus Peat
Stephone Anthony
Sheldon Rankins

18 picks. Only 3 were really busts (so far) with Sullivan, Ellis, and Robinson. 4 Pro-Bowlers and a handful of solid guys.

Of the rest,

the good teams are teams that can draft the mid rounds like the seahawks and patriots

True, but who else was available at positions of need when the Saints made those choices?

2012-Browns drafted RB Trent Richardson
next 3: OT Matt Kalil, WR Justin Blackmon, CB Morris Claiborne

2012-Browns drafted QB Brandon Weeden
next 3: OT Riley Reiff, OG David DeCastro, LB Dont'a Hightower

2013-Browns drafted DE/LB Barkevious Mingo
next 3: OG Jonathan Cooper, WR Tavon Austin, CB Dee Milliner

2014-Browns drafted CB Justin Gilbert
next 5: LB Anthony Barr, TE Eric Ebron, OT Taylor Lewan, WR Odell Beckham, DT Aaron Donald

2014-Browns drafted QB Johnny Manziel
next 3: DE Dee Ford, CB Darqueze Dennard, CB Jason Verrett

Are the Browns that bad at evaluating talent, or are they ruining the players they pick?

Damn. Only one of these dudes to be anything worthwhile is blackmon and he can't even stay on the field because he's a knucklehead

Matt Kalil is awful. Mo has been bad, might be turning it around the last year or so but still, he got drafted 6th overall and couldn't play a lick for a while.

And those three look like genius picks next to the Browns stretch

Deuce McAllister- Saints HOFer
Donte Stallworth-started slow, but turned into solid contributor
Charles Grant- started off well, but got fat and happy after contract
Jonathan Sullivan- this name gives me indigestion to this day
Will Smith- solid performer, RIP
Jammal Brown- solid when healthy
Reggie Bush- was NEVER gonna live up to his hype, but tried anyway
Robert Meachem- Stallworth 2.0
Sedrick Ellis- had flashes, but never consistent
Malcolm Jenkins- didn't fit here, but turned out OK elsewhere
Patrick Robinson- toast
Cam Jordan- solid, underrated by the experts
Mark Ingram- slowed by injuries, but turning the corner now
Kenny Vaccaro- has dropped off considerably since rookie year
Brandin Cooks- could be of worth as #2, but definitely not a #1
Andrus Peat- is there anywhere on the OL this dude can play, because T isn't it....
Stephone Anthony- still has a little learning to do, but he's on track
Sheldon Rankins- TBD

overall, some hits, some misses, but we have not done well, overall, in the middle rounds, and we are constantly trading up, which make those mistakes that much more significant because of a lack of opportunities to get another player/something of worth...

Yeah, but lets not compare ourselves to the Browns.
