The Uggla signing was not bad when it happened. We needed a second baseman and we needed a power hitter. There was no indication that Uggla would become that shitty the second he stepped into Atlanta.

As for BJ, yeah, that was fricking stupid.

There is not a lot of truth in this statement nor was Uggla remotely deserving of what Wren agreed to pay him, + he was a 2B and played average to mediocre D.

He didn't pay CJ the same kind of money with the extension, but he was out of his mind again. Two power guys on the team in J-Up and Gattis, Gattis can't be an every game player, and you extend a 3B with no power? Where did Wren think the HRs were going to come from? I like FF, but I don't know that he is going to become a 30 or better HR guy, either. Then you have Simmons who wants to be a power hitter instead of what he should excel at. This lineup has so many guys who need to adjust their self image to fit what they should be able to do, not what they dream of doing.

I'm sure BJ and CJ didn't mind Wren signing his checks for him

Cliffs from Bowman's article:

Braves will trade or release BJ Upton

Braves could trade one of Justin Upton or Heyward

Seems likely Braves trade Gattis and make Bethancourt full time catcher

Tommy La Stella, Phil Gosselin, Jose Peraza battle for 2B job

Braves will consider bringing Harang back and consider making Hale a starter until Medlen and/or Beachy are ready

Could non-tender Avilan

We all kinda knew at the time BJ was an awful deal, but I always justified being okay with it because I fully believe it brought Justin Upton..

However never knew he would be that bad..

Braves expected to get 30 HR's and a .250 average with mediocre/slightly below avg defense

If Uggla had given us that, he would be beloved and we probably make the playoffs this year

I will project the offseason based on what Bowman and others have said:

Projected OD Roster

C: Bethancourt
1B: Freeman
2B: Peraza/La Stella/Gosselin
3B: Johnson (Kubitza pushing)
SS: Simmons
RF: Heyward (if not traded)
CF: Acquistion
LF: Upton (if not traded)

Rotation
Teheran
Wood
Minor
Hale/Acquisition (until Medlen is ready)
Harang/Acquisition/Beachy

LOSE:
Ervin Santana (FA; expected to tender QO)
Ryan Doumit (FA)
Gerald Laird (FA)
Emilio Bonifacio (FA)
Evan Gattis (trade)
B.J. Upton (trade/release)
Luis Avilan, Jonny Venters, Cory Gearrin (non-tender)
Justin Upton or Jason Heyward (if they decide to blow it up)

ADD:
CF Acquisition via trade or FA
Pick #16 in 2015 draft
Pick between #25 and 30 (for Ervin Santana)
B level prospect + marginal prospect (s) (for Evan Gattis)
A level prospect + B level prospect + marginal prospect (s) (if Upton/Heyward trade is made)
Bench and Bullpen Help

At this point I think moving on from the Uptons makes more sense than giving up Heyward, just can't see that happening

I would rather keep Heyward personally

maybe we can trade both Uptons together

frick me. Does this mean John Hart is GM for next season as well? You'd think if they were bringing in someone else, they'd let the new guy decide something like this.
