Source describes Kemp from #Padres to #Braves for Olivera as "getting closer." Says would just be those 2 in deal

As long as the Padres are willing to chip in a fair bit and we aren't giving up much he makes a fair bit of sense as a reclamation project. Could provide some value outside of Petco and playing LF.

Keep him far, far away from Atlanta.

That's kind of nonsensical. What am I missing?

Weird move, if they make it, unless they move him again, at deadline.(if they can, CBA rules)

Don't see what sense this makes in any way whatsoever

In an ideal world we just continue the rebuild and let the chips fall where they may. But with the new stadium you know they are going to be spending money or prospects for players for LF, 3B, and catcher for next year. I would much rather see us make a marginal move for someone like Kemp than waste our top of the 2nd round pick next year signing a FA or sending real talent for someone like Braun or the like.

In my ideal world for next season we trade lesser prospects for someone like Kemp (if the Pads are paying most the salary anyway) or Reddick if he gets traded and is no longer a QO guy, sign Prado or Freese to a non-QO contract, and sign Jason Castro to platoon with Flowers.

Not really interested in seeing us screw things up with the rebuild when we have zero chance to do anything next year.

I'm really worried we're going to something extremely stupid in the next 2 days. Why can't we just be satisfied with being sellers?

yeah, they had been sticking to rebuilding. The Miller deal for high end prospects, and other deals for prospects.

This would be silly, to give away anyone for Kemp. He doesn't fix or fill anything they need. He's a NOW player, not future.

Kemp has negative value, he's not a NOW player.

So for the past year and a half they've traded away everything they could in order to build up prospects and the farm system. Now all of sudden they want to trade prospects for Kemp and McCann, two players past their prime. What am I missing here?

It appears as if AJ Preller has decided to play GM on hard mode. Make your team as shitty as possible and deplete the farm and then try and become a good team.

If the Braves revisit talks re: Kemp, the Padres would seemingly have to be willing to take Olivera as part of a bad contract swap

This maybe very similar to the Chris Johnson deal for us.

So it sounds like a Kemp/Olivera bad contract exchange is actually getting close

If it's straight up Olivera for Kemp I don't mind one bit
