I try not to get super negative with us doing the same crap year after year, but it gets annoying. People like to make comments about how successful the Braves were drafting this way, but really how many pitchers have we drafted in the top 2 rounds that went on to be decent (#3 or better) starters over the past 25 years?
I can think of like three:
Wainwright, Minor (and he's been up and down, and even then he was a big reach with better prospects available at that pick), and now Wood.

My updated Top 15 Prospects
Unless they really pick it up in the second half of the year Sims and Ruiz are gonna drop a bunch, particularly Sims since he will be struggling for two years in a row at levels he should be doing extremely well in.
Soroka really doesn't belong in our top 15, he was projected to be a 3rd round pick by most accounts I've seen.

Jeff Locke and Jason Marquis could be included as well depending on your definition of decent.

I know we wanna pick off BJ and all but wtf

Soroka has a 50 overall grade from most places I've seen. Braves don't have 15 guys with 50 grades in the system.

Tie game. Thanks Grilli

Our fricking bullpen. Jesus Christ.

This bullpen is comical. The merry go round music should play whenever we go to the pen

I'd consider those both #4/#5 starter types, though Locke still has time to improve (though he's sucked this year). Marquis had a career ERA of 4.61 and Locke has one of 4.21, neither really #3 starter material and pretty replaceable.
Even if you include those two that's pretty poor results for a good 25+ years of drafting in the 1st, 2nd, and supplemental rounds.

I saw Sims pitch earlier this year in Zebulon and he looked pretty solid, that may be clouding my judgement. Had two terrible outings this year but the other 4 starts were solid. Was starting to pitch better before he was in that bus crash.
I don't think you can say he's struggling when he's only made 6 starts and over half of them have been pretty good. Especially when he's still young for his league.

Your top 15 means what exactly?
Just giving a solid idea of what we have in the system. I've seen Carolina live once this year and Gwinnett once and the rest are based on stats and scouting reports.

It is interesting that there have been so few hits.
I was fine with the Allard pick but would have liked to have seen Betts or Hayes with that pick at 28.

Fangraphs has him more like 40ish+, but we'll see I guess. And guys who only project to #3 starters aren't really what I think of as FV 50s.
I'm sure we'll pick Chalmers at 41 if he's there because who needs hitters with power anyway.

Those are the exact two I would have liked to see as well, preferably Hayes since he has the best chance to stick at his current position I think. And yeah, had no issues with the Allard pick, huge upside there with Ace potential, and the only batter left in that range was Clark who is kinda iffy.

Well my issue is he did this same thing last year. He would have 3-4 very solid starts then get pounded for 6-7 runs. He came on strong for the last 8-9 starts of last year though, so I hoped he was turning a corner. Hopefully he can come back strong once he returns from the DL after the bus crash.
