I dont see it, unless Ive missed updates on him.

6'5 230, already maxed out physically and was only hitting 93-94 last summer. Plus, right handed pitchers dont go #1, unless Hunter Greene changes that this year.

He looks like Scott Kasmir in the delivery.

Seth Beer isnt that great of a prospect. Best case scenario is he can be average defense RF. Some scouts think he will be a first baseman at the next level. He won't fall out of the top 5 but he isn't a lock for the first pick next year.

Bat first college hitters don't go first overall. The guy I want in next years draft is Joe Gray Jr. He's the best five tool player in next years draft and has a chance to be special.

What is yalls opinion of C Kade Scivique? Im a LSU fan and like to keep up with former tigers in the minors. I saw that he is hitting pretty well in AA.

Fun fact -- he's Tracy Rocker's (Former UGA/Auburn DL Coach) kid.

I've seen him play and his delivery is so effortless. I definitely don't think its out of the realm of possibility to raise his velo to mid to high 90's. He has some electric stuff

We will need probably 2 of these young pitchers to mature into dependable major league starters, maybe as soon as next season.

In fact, I bet we see 2 of them on a regular basis before this season is over.

Colon has been pretty bad in 4 or 5 of his 7 starts. I'm not sure how many more times they'll run him out there if he keeps getting lit up.

The other starters have been "OK" at times. But not good enough to hold any of the youngsters back.

Most of them have been real bad at home.

I thought that draft was strong at the time. Brendan Rodgers is going to be a star. Thought he was easily the #1 player in the draft. Dansby, Bregman, Allard(even with injury), Benintendi, Tucker, Aiken, and Bickford were all big time prospects in my opinion. It didnt have the depth that other drafts have, and a lot of questionable players were taken high(Tate, Jay, Fulmer), but I still thought the top was damn good. Much better than 2016 imo.

I regress though. He was still taken #1. McKay might be the favorite for #1 this year, and most think of him as a 1B, not a pitcher.

There arent as many high upside college guys since teams have gotten to see them for 3 years in college, and are older, but there are a few guys that come around that seriously can be that #1 pick(Bryant, Longoria, Alex Gordon). They arent as common. Beer is one of them imo.

Chris Crawford: Unfortunately, it's not a strong class, arguably the worst class in terms of quality at the top and quantity in the middle of any that I've covered. Its saving grace is that there's some depth at shortstop for the first time in several years -- there's a strong chance that the top three picks will play there -- and as always there's some intriguing college arms that could move quickly through a system. Still, the lack of prep pitching and the volatility of the arms makes this a pretty bleak class, at least on paper.

I’ve written many times in the past eight months that this draft class is pretty weak and that, combined with the bonus pools that limit each team’s draft spending, will make for an unpredictable draft day filled with below-slot deals. That talk has continued here and in other places but, in the last few weeks, teams’ plans have come into better focus and the question marks now start at the very top.

If you don’t tune in Monday, you’ll miss a draft that’s shaping up to be a weird one. “I’ve been covering the draft since 2009, and this is easily the weakest class in terms of quality at the top and quantity overall that I’ve covered,” Christopher Crawford, Baseball Prospectus’s new senior prospect writer, told me via email. “[ESPN analyst Keith Law] and I have both joked that we’d prefer to just skip this year and combine it with next year, which — on paper — is the best I’ve seen.”

2015 class was weak coming out.

Swanson went first overall in a weak draft class and he wasn't a bat first player. Most Scouts saw Swanson as an above average SS.

Saw Kade in Bham a week ago. He was hammering the ball that night. The ball just sounded different off his bat. He just missed a mammoth grand slam that went foul by about 10 feet. I like to think he could be a big improvement offensively compared to our current backup catcher options.
