The Advocate always (at least in my lifetime) has had a bowling section that reports scores and other news related to bowling. I've yet to see another city, irrespective of size, showcase bowling like The Advocate.

Any reason for this?

Pretty cool imo. Lots of tradition and serious bowlers in the area.

Based on the bowling history here in St Louis, I'm a little surprised the Post Dispatch doesn't cover it a little more.

Baton Rouge hosts the 2017 NCAA Bowling National Championship FWIW.

FWIW Southern has a very strong bowling history.

any sport that allows you to smoke cigarettes and eat cheeseburgers is ok with me.

Isn't the bowling HOF in StL?

I heard Jim Valvano mention that during a b-ball game once

It was until 2008. Now I think we just have the Chess Hall of Fame or something like that.

Also, Dick and Pete Weber are from the St Louis metro area.

Although this may no longer be true, I remember reading when I was a kid in TV Guide that bowling traditionally got higher total viewership numbers than the sport that dare not speak its name.

However, g*lf gets a higher-income demo, the kind that will buy luxury cars, insurance, financial services etc... So sponsors keep it on the air despite the lower overall numbers

I like Bowling. It's indoors. It's challenging. It's exercise. The ball comes back to you. And there is some strategy involved with trying to pick up a spare on split pins.

Some high schools offer bowling as a varsity sport. It's fun.

It's always kinda intimidating to be in the presence of so many great athletes when one walks into a bowling arena for a big pro tournament.
