Small parlay on Stan/Ferrer tomorrow. Not really expecting to hit it, but Stan can overpower Joker, and Murray's back is acting up again. Murray's response that his back will be fine for Davis Cup makes me think his focus is not on this tournament.

Saw Nadal saved a match point v. Anderson and then got knocked out vs. Stan. Seems like Nadal has improved his play since the US Open as he's going deeper in tournaments. How'd he look v. Stan?

Stan was down a set and a break, but battled back to break Novak's sets streak of twenty something. On to the third.

Nadal missed an easy smash vs. Stan in the 2nd set tiebreaker that would have probably won it and forced a 3rd set. He's getting more depth on his shots and looks healthy. He has come a long way since the straight set loss to Joker in the French.

If you would have asked me back then, I would have said he will never win another slam. But he has at least put himself back in the conversation.

That being said, every tourney that Joker enters from now on will be his to lose.

Year end event starts today with round robin in two groups of four until next weekend. Djokovic is up early on Nishikori right now. Federer and Berdych in the afternoon.

The tour is in a bad state right now IMO. It's still basically a top four or five the way it's been for five years, only Novak has separated himself from the pack. Fed's longevity is amazing, but he's not going to do any better than he did the last two years. I've never been a huge Rafa fan, but I'm hoping he can get near peak form. I like the way Murray competes, but he is only going to beat Nole one out of every five times and their matches are super boring. Stan and Kei are fun when they are on their games, but too inconsistent. There is some stat that nobody has won more than 5 slams after 27, but I think Novak is going to destroy that. The only thing I can get interested in is him winning a calendar grand slam. He is going to own Australia through the spring hardcourts. Bring on the clay season.

did you watch the rafa/stan match yesterday?

stan just about quit during the match, gave piss poor effort and practically handed nadal the match. it was infuriating to see that.

That's Stan for you. I'm just thankful he takes out the top guys once in a while. I don't blame him. These tournaments after the U.S. Open are a joke. The tour should end in October at latest. Or, I'd love to see the Aussie Open moved to spring, but that will never happen because it fits perfectly with their summer/holidays. These guys need two full months off, but basically get none because you have to keep in shape even during the holidays for Australia.

i do wonder how much credit novak will get if he keeps rolling through the tour for the next 3-4 years. there will be disappointing losses here and there, and i don't think he gets close to roger's 17 GS mark, but he probably ties nadal at 14 and gets his coveted french open title next year.

but by then, people will already be calling it a weak era to discredit anything and everything that he's accomplished. the love won't be there like it was for RF/RN, either.

Looks like Fed just dropped the hammer on Novak, although it probably won't matter much if both advance to the semis after round robin.

yeah that was a weird match to watch. fed's serves out wide were frustrating novak. ND actually served better than decent, as well.

i'll say that i haven't seen this many UE's from djokovic in a while.

Nadal beats Murray, 4&1.

Is he back? IS HE BACK?!

Federer already advanced to the semis, as did Nadal. Both have been playing great.

Nadal's reward for blowing his group away? Joker in the semis and likely Fed in the finals.

This format is pretty dumb. Radwanska went 1-2 in group play and won the title.
