That "some reason" is Chris Beard made the program into a power during his tenure there. His assistant took over, had a decent first season, before coming back to earth in year 2 and leaving after essentially a mutiny by the players.

However, I'm a bit surprised they are having such a good season. Didn't McCasland get the memo that it takes 3, 4, 5 years to "rebuild" a program? Especially when he has 8 new players on this roster this season.

He was one of the early names thrown around after Wade was dismissed but after the Jones experience it would have been tough to sell hiring another coach from UNT. However i was impressed watching them in the NIT last season.
