Teams that appeared in the four-team era of the College Football Playoff (2014-2023)

Fifteen different programs over the course of 10 seasons had the honor and privilege to appear in the four-team era of the College Football Playoff. The number of teams that will appear in the CFP will grow exponentially over the coming years thanks to the advent of the 12-team playoff. However, these programs were the only ones to do it when it was more exclusive:
Alabama
Oregon
Florida State
Ohio State
Clemson
Oklahoma
Michigan State
Washington
Georgia
Notre Dame
LSU
Michigan
Cincinnati
TCU
Texas

Yup agreed. We're going to have a lot of the Penn State and Oregon State type of teams in
AKA undeserving teams (no offense to you guys)

You're right, ND is definitely a Catholic school

Also, 15 programs made the national title game during the BCS era

You are correct. I just checked your work and this is what I came up with:
Tennessee
Florida State
Virginia Tech
Oklahoma
Miami
Nebraska
Ohio State
LSU
USC
Texas
Florida
Alabama
Auburn
Oregon
Notre Dame

and 5 of them won titles.

we're gonna have a frickton more teams make this feel good pat-on-the-back list, yet still have the same 5/6 programs continue to win the titles.
Then the powers that be will realize how many billions they're making and claim that 12 isn't enough and we actually need 16 teams to be SUPER DUPER fair, and the process will continue.

Considering all the hype they get for being a powerhouse they they haven't won a national championship since 1988.
That's longer than since I last had some Wolf Brand Chili.

Texas A&M has a trophy with Jimbo Fishers name on it that would say your OP is wrong

Well, if they're truly undeserving, they will lose. And we will know for sure because it was settled on the field.
I think we'll see teams like this win in the first round quite a bit more than people think. 12 will be playing 5, not 1. Those first round games will be awesome and pretty even.

If only it had started in 2012. Will Muschamp and Jeff Driskel as possible national champs.

So just 3 schools accounted for 19 of 40 playoff spots over the 10 years of thr CFP. How about that parity
Posted on 12/8/23 at 12:57 pm to RollTide1987
Would be hilarious if 11 of the 12 teams next year come from this list.

Impossible because all the “SEC Loyalists” who like to simp for bama have assured me that our fortunes are tied to theirs.

Numerous programs had near-misses in the BCS era:
1998: Kansas State/UCLA
2000: Washington (arguably should've been in taking the transitive property into account. Could say Oregon State too but it's not like they were in the driver's seat and blew it)
2006: Louisville
2007: West Virginia
2008: Penn State
2009: Cincinnati (though some believe TCU would've been #2 had Texas lost)
2010: TCU (though Auburn losing would've taken away Auburn's appearance)
2011: Oklahoma State
2012: Georgia
2013: Missouri (better chance for them than 2007; most thought they'd lose to OU in 2007 but they were actually favored against Auburn in 2013)
Change one play each season and that list could be 50% bigger.
