Yeah you've gotta play the game, especially at major programs. Shake hands, kiss babies, etc. He couldn't play the game enough to even cut it at LSU.

I think he's looking forward to the offseason where he'll play plenty of dodge ball.

It's incredible how freaking terrible Trent Johnson is at coaching basketball.

What happened at Nevada and Stanford?

I think he tries to get another soft landing this offseason at a West Coast Conference school.

Pretty amazing that this guy makes $2 million/year, and even more amazing that TCU gave him a 500K/year raise to hire him away from LSU.

I work for TCU basketball so I know a lot of you would like to bash Trent Johnson but I don't know if any coach in the country could make do with what has happened this year.

With Karviar Shepherd recently breaking his hand, TCU is now down to 6 scholarship players. There is no one to play center, all 4 of those guys are either out with an injury or ineligible due to transfer rules. This means at times this year TCU has had to play a 6'2' walk-on at the 5/Center position. Recently 6'5 freshman Hudson Price has been asked to guard the likes of Joel Embid and other Big 12 centers in the paint, which just isn't fair. The only player over 6'6', Amric Fields, is coming off a major knee injury and isn't at 100% or even 75%, and is having to play 38 minutes because with out him TCU is even smaller. His natural position is the 3 spot, but is being asked to play the 4/5 which is causing him to wear out and hurt his offensive production.

At this point I feel bad for everyone involved, but the good news is that if everyone is healthy next year, this team will be talented enough to go to the postseason. The 3 freshman this year who have gotten meaningful minutes will be a year older/stronger, 2 impact transfers will become eligible, and the 3 centers/post players should be healthy. The problem is this team has no depth at all when it comes to big men this year.

I would say this season is more of bad luck due to roster attrition. It's still one of the youngest teams in the country, 318th in experience: LINK

I want to stress that they lost to Longwood University who has been D1 for only 9 seasons. Longwood is currently 7-16 with losses to Brown, Mississippi Valley State, Eastern Kentucky etc... oh and a 74 point loss to Louisiana Tech

TCU's lineup for a majority of that game consisted of no player over 6'2. It was really bad. Karvair Shepherd was in foul trouble the entire game. Even Ken Pomeroy made a comment about it:

quote:

Kyan Anderson (5-11), Christian Gore (6-2), Michael Williams (6-2), Charles Hill, Jr. (6-2), Thomas Montigel (6-2)

Kyan Anderson (5-11), Christian Gore (6-2), Michael Williams (6-2), Charles Hill, Jr. (6-2), Thomas Montigel (6-2)

With the Horned Frogs’ front court wrecked by injuries, TCU has to play small when 6-10 Karviar Shepherd needs a breather or gets in foul trouble. This, however, is an extreme case that was spotted in the second half of an 82-79 loss to Longwood.

He did manage to pull in 4 star Kaviar Shepard in his first recruiting class. His 2014 class is filled with a zero star PG and a zero star kid with no position listed.

Actually the recruiting class this year consists of one player, a 3 star McDonald's All American nominee from Oklahoma. There was only spot for one scholarship this year.

Recrutiing has been fine compared to the previous coaches. Last year's class was a consensus Top 30 class nationwide

I'm sure you have pride in your job and you want to believe and yes, those circumstances you posted are unfortunate, but Trent is just dead weight now. He's a TERRIBLE bench coach. And about your recruiting class, I was using rivals... A 3 stars McDonalds All American nominee? Dude no. Only the very best 15-20 make that and a three star guard ain't getting there

You all can blame Trent Johnson all you want but I don't think you can take how he has done at TCU so far as a measuring stick of his coaching ability

He inherited a depleted roster of no one of a team that never once had a winning record in the MWC and then has to develop it into a roster that has to compete in a much better basketball conference. The previous coach's strategy was not to recruit freshman but to load up on JC transfers, so the roster was bare when he took over this year. He has had to build a program from scratch at a school with no basketball tradition.

At least the basketball arena/facilities are being upgraded after this season so that should help recruiting. Right now the facilities are old and bad for basketball.

TCU is really bad this year. IMO they shouldn't be in the Big 12 and Louisville should have been invited to go with WVU. I don't see any value TCU brings and in my opinion that sucks.

That's cool and all but Trent Johnson is a terrible coach that can't recruit.
