Will be live streamed on Nike's website and on Runner's World at 10:45 CT Friday Night (if I'm interpreting the time zones correctly). I give them about a 10% chance of making it happen. Would be lower but Kipchoge is a transcendent talent IMO. Either way, I'll be watching.

If my math is correct, they have to keep an average pace under 4 minutes and 36 seconds per mile. That's just ridiculous.

It's only 2:57 ahead of the current WR, a big jump but I wouldn't say sub two is out of the question.

No way. I will be stunned if that happens

At that point, almost three minutes is a huge fricking deal. It's like saying it'll be easy to get to a 9.4 / 100m since runners are currently only .2 seconds from that now.

Usually records like this that have been long established are beaten by seconds and not by three minutes at a time.

I'm not saying it isnt, but Nike is also setting up conditions that wouldn't be found in a normal big city marathon. The course/weather/shoes/pacing makes a difference, the question is just how much. Some research has shown that the shoes could potentially save up to 4%

This much I agree with you on for sure. A real marathon is like a real golf course. It's a living, breathing entity with potholes in the road, changing weather, competitors, etc. If you control for issues like getting the ideal weather/temperature, zero incline running track, and the like, you could do better. But I still don't see sub-2 hour.

I am not sure I could bike 26 miles in under 2 hours, let alone run it.

Give me a car to complete this task then we can talk...
