I suppose youre right, with the main driving force of creating a child being self-preservation.

Dude waited until he was 35 to have a son? He's like, the exact opposite of Travis Henry.

I'm just happy that since he is no longer a panther, I can openly root for him.

I never really hated that guy as a Panther either. He was a really good player.

Still doesnt make sense. Is anyone going to mistake his infant son for him while he's running around on a football field?

I could have swore on the broadcast last night they said he named his third son Steve Smith Jr.

I always thought the firstborn would carry the name, no?

Is anyone going to confuse RG3's father or grandfather for him while he's running around on the football field?

Different situation. RG III has always been RG III. Smith just recently became a SR.

They don't do this anymore. Both would just have "Smith."

This. I think the nfl changed it back when the Pats signed Kyle Brady so that Tom's "T.BRADY" jersey wouldn't piss off fans who already had his jersey.

Guys all over the league change. Last season Earl Thomas changed his jersey from "Thomas" to "Thomas III"

He's proud of his son, wants the world to know he has one. Is that so wrong?
