So ESPN programming has become 90% opinion-based, and when a host gives an opinion he gets suspended.

I loathe what ESPN has become.

I'm torn here because I think he said nothing wrong and this suspension is a major injustice.

On the other hand, anything that reduces the amount of words Screamin A is allowed to pollute the airwaves with is a great improvement to the world.

Can you imagine if sucking became a suspendable offense? Most of BSPN would get a lifetime ban.

but the suspension is ridiculous.

Meh. You just can't debate about this kind of thing and it should never have been discussed in a debate format.

I understand what he was trying to say, but the social prohibition on violence against women is deeply ingrained into American culture. In our society here is no "other side" of the story when it comes to violence against women.

This. Even if he totally believes what he said sometimes you gotta let shite slide and keep it in your head.

Steven A. Smith is going to miss almost as much time as Ray Rice.

Also, isn't he on an opinion show? A show where he gets to voice his opinions?

I understand what he was saying. He wasn't condoning violence against women. He was essentially saying the fault lies 50/50 in some cases. Of course, violence is not condoned but in a few situations, both parties can contribute to it escalating.

Ultimately, responsibility always lies with the man no matter how triflin the woman you might be dealing with is.

I think that's essentially the point Smith was making but people glossed it over and applied it to all situations. If I was Smith, I wouldn't have even commented on that because of how political ESPN is.
