That is pretty amazing technology.
Seeing a shortstop throw the ball 70 mph 120 feet the opposite direction off one foot is insane. But being able to attach real live data to that stat is going to make the game more fun IMO.

That seems like Sports Science overlaid on a live baseball broadcast. I don't know how I feel about the paths to the ball and ball trails but I do like the information.
I'll have to check it out for sure.

i agree completely. i figure for awhile there a lot of the data wont make a ton of sense. What i mean is you wont know how to analyze something until a good baseline is determined.
For example is a 98% route efficiency awesome or pretty normal. But within 6 months i can see it being pretty sweet and i bet a lot of these baseline measurements will eventually be common knowledge.

It's going to take advanced metrics to the next level…the 'eyeball' test will be no longer needed as a fielder…everything will be relative…this is going to be huge for managers late in games when trying to determine the best defensive substitution or pinch runner/hitter
in fact, you can probably rank the top players at position almost to an exact science without any debate.

They'll still give Jeter the Gold Glove.

Will this settle yesterday's argument about whether Jhonny Peralta is the WOAT defensive SS Or the GOAT DEFENSIVE SS?

i guess it might. But if this takes debate out of baseball what will everyone argue about?

Is this a step towards taking a lot of the game out of the umpires hands?

This should be awesome to watch. I'm definitely intrigued.

Is this an exclusive MLB network thing, or will it be available to local broadcast like the Braves?

Stat porn, and it'll be interesting to see if dWAR actually correlates to the real game.
There is going to be a shitload of statistical noise for the first 3-5 years of this project.

Honestly, that's already more than possible.
Pitchf/X is so much more accurate than umpires it isn't even funny. Ironically, the stats guys just finally learned how to accurately capture framing stats, and they'd be thrown right out the window.

Pitch framing will be the next thing that the major networks start to care about IMO. Maybe not right away, but framing will be embraced in due time.

Christian Vasquez was going to bring this to NESN, but he had to have TJ surgery.
