1. Minnesota - C Jahlil Okafor

quote:

While most analysts consider Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns this year’s top prospect, there are reasons to think the Wolves will select Jahlil Okafor instead. Flip Saunders isn’t a big proponent of three-point shooting—Minnesota ranked dead last in the league in attempts last season—but is a fan of traditional post play. The Wolves ranked No. 11 in percentage of field-goal attempts from less than 10 feet last season, according to NBA.com. Saunders reportedly “really likes” the post-bound Okafor and may view him as more attractive than Towns, who offers more versatility and range on his jump shot.

2. LA Lakers - C Karl Anthony Towns

quote:

The Lakers happily nab Towns with the second pick, partnering him with Julius Randle to form a Kentucky-schooled frontline for the future. The big man brings mountains of upside and will lead the transition into the post-Kobe era—or become a very valuable trade chip should L.A. decide to go all-in
before No. 24 calls it quits.

3. Philadelphia - G Emmanuel Mudiay
4. New York - G D'Angelo Russell
5. Orlando - G Mario Hezonja
6. Boston - C Willie Cauley-Stein (trade)
7. Denver - F Justice Winslow
8. Detroit - F Kristaps Porzingis
9. Charlotte - F Stanley Johnson
10. Miami - F Kelly Oubre

When did towns become the consensus pick over Okafor?

Towards the end of the CBB season..Okafor's defensive limitations and ceiling were becoming more evident.

yea, as long as we dont trade either, that would set us up and hopefully make us attractive enough for KD

Randle hasn't done shite

People were picking him to bust at this time last year. Let's pump the brakes

hes lost 18 pounds since draft day last year and has gotten a lot of love from mitch kupchak who generally down plays talent. we obviously know nothing until we actually see him play, but things are looking pretty good right now

18 lbs from his 250? He was pretty athletic and while at that weight as it was and was already sub 10% body fat. 232 is pretty small for most PFs and guys lose weight during the season, too.

All the big dog PFs are around 250.

19 y/o pup in Towns (best player in the draft IMO) at center and undersized, 232 lb Randle at the 4?

his weight was one of the big issues with why people questioned his quickness. if anything, him losing weight allows the team to move him to the perimeter when we want to go small because he will now be quick enough to do so

How is Towns not the obvious pick at 1?

Am I missing something?
