How could Big XII expansion impact other conferences? especially the "group of 5." We know it will likely cause another trickle-down effect, similar to the last big realignment movement, but how big of an impact do you think it makes?

example: the Big XII raids the American, the American raids Conference USA, CUSA pillages what's left of the Sun Belt.

Can a weakened CUSA and Sun Belt survive another round of realignment? Could they dissolve entirely? Does any of this effect the Mountain West? (Even if they don't lose Colorado State).

I'm not sure how to predict where the chips will fall, because there's still so many unknowns, but if it's anything like 2011, all hell is about to break lose.

I doubt it. The Big XII is getting two, maybe four members at the most. And if one of them is Brigham Young, it doesn't affect anything because they would be football-only.

Programs are still climbing to FBS from FCS (or from scratch in some cases) on a regular basis so I don't see why one of the G5 conferences will cease to be. They're all pretty fat and stable right now.

they might like BYU as football-only since they don't have to pay their full share of media rights out (since no basketball, etc.)

FWIW, BYU also has their own TV network.

If the AAC loses 3 then all kinds of chaos will ensue at the G5 level.

But at the end of the day my Cajuns will still be in the Sun Belt. Our administration doesn't want to move. I honestly think they want to see us back with the old Southland rivals.

I had brought this up in a different thread: What happened to the ULL to Conference USA talks? That might not be much of an upgrade, but your administration has to at least try..

The GOR in the ACC and Big 12 has pretty well shut down much movement of major schools.

The movement that can happen is within the midmajors and independents.

The American is not going to raid CUSA for any more than 2 teams, if that. CUSA has too many teams now so they can stand pat.

The only two schools the American is reportedly interested in, should they lose 2+ current members, are Charlotte and Old Dominion.

That would be horrible... we don't know yet if their football programs are viable

I'd go with Southern Miss and UAB...

I know for a fact that our administration is not talking to other conferences. If they call us we will listen, but we are not looking to move. If the Sun Belt loses more schools and adds SLC programs or SoCon programs I will dawn the purple and gold and be done with the Cajuns.

Pretty sad since I played football and ran track there.

UAB?.....speaking of viable football programs.
AAC hoops is what will take the biggest hit. That's what they should firm up especially as that is an area where G5 can bring in money. AAC will still have a few good hoops programs...keep it small and bring a few that can play hoops, even if don't play football.
USM on hoops probation and for academic fraud = problems.
The 14 killed CUSA basketball.

ODU has a good coach and a great recruiting base. They should be a solid CUSA program in time.

UAB is more viable than ever, they have a shite ton of money flowing into that football program now. Plus they would at least help keep basketball respectable. And in a huge market for college football.

UAB is finally making the right commitments. I read that they're building new facilities and possibly an on-campus stadium, which is great because their facilities were horrible and Legion field is a dump. I'm happy for them, but they still have a long way to go.
