so, to piggy back off rogers thread, these are stephs stats for this year. lets compare them to these selected few all time greats career bests
.please note, we still have about 20 games left for steph so these can obviously get even more ridiculous
30.4/6.7/5.3
51.3 FG% 46.1 3FG% 68.1 TS% 63.9 eFG%
276 made threes
32.6 PER
126 ORtg
.338 WS/48
43.2 points per 100 possessions
Michael:
37.1/8.0/8
53.9 FG% 50.0 3FG% 61.4 TS% 55.0 eFG%
111 made threes
31.7 PER
125 ORtg
.321 WS/48
46.4 points per 100 possessions
Magic:
23.9/13.1/9.6
56.5 FG% 38.4 3FG% 63.7 TS% 56.9 eFG%
106 made threes
27.0 PER
126 ORtg
.270 WS/48
31.1 points per 100 possessions
kareem:
34.8/4.6/16.6
60.4 FG% .333 3FG% 63.9 TS% 60.4 eFG%
1 three pointer made
120 ORtg
29.9 PER
.340 WS/48
33.4 points per 100 possessions
larry:
29.9/7.6/11.0
52.7 FG% 42.7 3FG% 61.2 TS% 55.6 eFG%
98 three pointers made
27.8 PER
121 ORtg
.224 WS/48
37.6 points per possession
lebron:
31.4/8.6/8.0
56.7 FG% 40.6 3FG% 64.9 TS% 61.0 eFG%
132 made threes
31.7 PER
125 ORtg
.322 WS/48
40.8 points per 100 possessions
so there we have it. when compared the career bests of these five absolute all time greats, steph currys 2016 seasons either is better or similar to in every single category. if he gives us 5 more seasons like this and the warriors go on a big title run, i dont see how he cant be considered the GOAT
.please note, we still have about 20 games left for steph so these can obviously get even more ridiculous

What is the historic correlation between league leader in PER and named MVP?

My post in the other thread:
quote:
Are we seeing the most dramatic leap in a player's progression ever? I mean a few years ago Curry was pretty good, but what he's doing this year and last year is something that couldn't even be replicated in a video game. He's not putting up video game numbers anymore. He's blown past video game numbers.
Just glancing at some stats, he has improved incredibly in the last two years. Averaged about a 20 PER his first 5 years in the league. Averaging almost 31 over the last two.
19.5 ppg his first 5 years, 27.1 ppg in the last two years.
Averaged 3.6 VORP his first 5 years. Averaging 7.45 over the last two.
Averaged about 48% on 2pt FGs his first 5 years, Averaging about 55% the last two years. 10% increase in 2 pt FG% since his rookie year. Surprisingly, only a 3% increase in 3pt% since his rookie year. Last year he actually shot below his career average from 3.
Career low in TOV% this year even though his USG% is 6% higher than his career average.
Has any other player in NBA history made such a gigantic leap AFTER 5 years in the league? I can't really think of any.

Is this five year "run" going to include all-NBA caliber defense?

Doesnt matter. Some old farts are going to say they dont play defense now like they did in the old days. They will find some way to put an ** by his stats just like Isiah Thomas

he was one of the best defensive point guards in the NBA last year and i bet if we looked it up, hed be this year as well

We can debate over individual DRTG's worth, but he at a career low 101 DRTG this year. Last year's 102 was also a career low.

Steph DRTG this year is 101.
Jordan had one 101 season and 2 100 seasons.

No really,

Magic didn't play to be a scoring machine (but he could as evidenced by his dominating performance in the Finals as a rookie) - but Magic and Larry played to control the game.
As McHale said: Magic and Larry could have 18 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists and be the best players on the court BY FAR!

i posted about this during the early part of the year (when he was actually playing better, imagine that). it's basically unheard of
just like yesterday when i corrected somebody who claimed they didn't expect this as a rookie. nobody expected this 2 years ago
except rondo
