Thought it was a good read, especially since it's aimed at ESPN.

And I’d bank my life savings on the fact that if any one of their writers was awarded as much time with Lance Armstrong as Rick Reilly—ESPN’s golden boy columnist known for his heart felt human interest pieces and shitty metaphors—they sure as hell wouldn’t have had to write the column most recently published by the man ESPN’s resident bad-boy, Bill Simmons, once sarcastically described as “raising the journalistic bar, both professionally and morally.”

Another gem:

quote:

The only broadcaster I admire from ESPN over the past two weeks is Brent Musburger, who after being publicly reprimanded by ESPN for his comments concerning the beauty of AJ McCarron’s girlfriend, Miss Alabama, signed off of a college basketball broadcast by saying that Holly Rowe, another ESPN talking mouth, was “smokin’ tonight.” That was, no doubt, the proud middle finger being waved by one of the most decorated broadcasters in sports history right in the corporate faces of ESPN.

I dedicate this blog to that man.

Update: The NY Times reported last night that ESPN got wind of this story a week before Deadspin ran the piece. However, their lack of moxie towards major media markets and general ballessness fawned for a sit down before they would run it. Their arrogance truly believed they were the only sports media outlet in the world with this scoop and now they’re left holding their shriveled journalistic schlong while Deadspin reaps the benefits. Nice.

I just don't understand what/why espn is doing this? I understand the shitty journalism at the start, but why all the cover up now? Why all the shady stuff & bullshite now? What's in it for them?

Espn is doing the same thing as Manti. They both keep covering up old lies with new lies.

ESPN sucks....I like PTI and sometimes ATH but overall the quality of the product gets worse everyday....I don't think I've ever cared less about sports...ESPN is sports for the non-sports fan.

All the douche bags, except some new guy named Pablo Torre, on ATH are "buying" the "let's move on, nothing to see here" angle. Frick those douche bags.

replace buying with "told to say"

and replace angle with "ESPN official narrative"

and you have your answer.

If the situation is resolved, they would be beating a dead horse.

If they go with Teo, the story changes and they have "fresh news" to discuss.

They aren't in the journalism business, they're in the entertainment business. Integrity be damned.

I'm sick of the "he's just a kid" excuse. He's a 21 yr old grown man. People seem to keep moving the bar on what age a kid ends.

However, it’s that same cynicism and irreverence for people at large that dug deeper than a half inch to uncover what is quite possibly the strangest story the sports world has ever seen.

This article was beast mode. Corporate interest don't stop cause it's a sports media. Media is media... lies are always told and most people never bat an eye. It's called an idiot box for a reason.

I agree, but that applies to fans too.

Fans are fans...lies about peds are always told and most never bat an eye. It's called an idiot box for a reason.

They are just happy to see a great performance even if it's under the illusion of drugs bringing about that performance.

It doesn't matter as long people are entertained and the media have a great story.

Track and field still to this day, football, then baseball, then cycling(although much like track just recently caught), more football and baseball, and soon to be unraveled as a bunch of druggies, tennis.

Fans eat it up and the media feeds them.
