IME, more fans hate IBTWWW than not. Its just the vocal minority that has to do it. That's just my experience though.

You could say that about baseball too. Lots of people say it's a snoozefest don't understand the 1 on 1 battles going on every at-bat.

Or you could say it about the Europeans who don't like football.

Yes, you can. And those people are varying degrees of closed minded as well.

I've had long conversations with Europeans trying to explain how much strategy goes into football and they just won't have it. All they see is a bunch of overgrown goons wearing "armor" smashing into each other in an ugly, stop-start fashion.

I would love to have this conversation IRL

I can cut them a break on the football though, since they've never been exposed to it. I don't have room to talk. All I see in soccer are guys who run around trying to pass the ball but they keep fricking it up and turning it over. And just when you think some progress is about to be made, some frick kicks the ball to the other side of the fricking field and you have to start all over. It's frustrating to watch IMO. I don't trash people who like it though, because I'm 100% sure there's a shitton of strategy I don't know/get that is enjoyable to them.

I'll tune in for the US games during the world cup and for the world cup finals, but that's all I watch of soccer.

In fairness, my favorite college football team did this a lot in 2012.

Also, I think, based on the rules, most americans can compare hockey to soccer. What they find to be exciting in hockey, is actually, IMO, just frantic. Its so luck based. Throw the puck down there, smash into each other on the boards, hope you come away with the puck and deflect that bitch in. And I like hockey(im a man and so and I like all sports, ill watch curling).

This whole "do you like or dislike soccer" debate is really getting old. If you like soccer, great, watch it. If you don't like soccer, great, don't watch it. What is the point of arguing why you do or don't like it?

Because the soccer haters constantly have to bitch about how the don't like/get the sport, which makes soccer fans constantly have to defend themselves. If you don't like it, then don't watch it and don't talk shite to those who do like it. I don't bitch to my baseball fan friends about how that sport is more boring to watch than watching paint dry.

Whats funny here is you use the word "either" here. I can only assume you think that I'm arguing against soccer, and therefor claiming that i additionally don't understand soccer. Whats even funnier is that you are an idiot...apparently.

I assumed you were as oblivious about soccer as you seemingly are to hockey.

My apologies if your understanding of soccer amounts to more than a bunch of huge guys chasing a puck and bashing each other and hacking at a puck which seemingly happens itself in to the goal based on luck.

Ive played soccer my entire life and far from oblivious to the sport.

I also understand that is not all hockey is. Appearances are often deceiving. But hockey is a much more frantic sport. And even if its considered strategy, throwing the puck into the attacking end, and then fight for it, is a part of hockey.

Absolutely true. It gives Americans the instant gratification they yearn for.

It's absolutely a part of the game, but teams can't sustain success with that model. The teams that win are those that can win pucks along the boards AND carry the puck into the zone with speed.

There's a lot going on in a small area, it makes for a great game.

I didn't mean to offend, and I was being a little snarky with that gif. My apologies.

I think this is why indoor became popular before outdoor, full sided soccer back in the 70's and 80's in the US.

I agree, and anytime someone suggests they get rid of offsides in either sport, I . Literally could not have either game.
