The Dolphins offered quarterback Ryan Tannehill a large bird in the hand. And he did the safe (and arguably smart) thing and took it.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tannehill’s deal is worth $96 million over six years. That’s an average of $16 million annually, far below the current top-of-the-market annual rate, which now exceeds $20 million.

Per Schefter, $45 million is guaranteed. It’s unclear at this point how much of the money is fully guaranteed at signing.

Good call. The Dolphins have wavered on him quite a bit. He is now set for life.

The only number that matters is the guaranteed number.

Less than Dalton and Kapernick, I'll take it.

Well have you seen the price of QBs these days?
and less than half of it is guaranteed.
In general people freak out too much when football contract numbers are given.

One of the biggest reaches in NFL draft history who was a shitty college QB and hasn't done jack shite in the NFL getting an extension like this

Revamped offense + Suh, definitely should. Philbin is toast if they don't.

if Tannehill breaks out then its a great deal for them, if he continues as meh, then its still not a terrible deal

How much guaranteed did Dalton get? I think his was like 6 for 116. Flacco was 6 for 120 with 52 guaranteed. Tannehill's numbers aren't much worse than those guys and Dalton's career is going the opposite way it seems like while Tannehill looked like he improved a lot this year

They probably should have waited a year after picking up his option but this is the rate for that mediocre starting QB now it seems like

Yup, not a bad deal. If Tannehill finally learns how to throw accurately more than 30 yards, Miami wins big with that contract.

Tannehill was pretty good last year. And he's super young. I like the deal for both sides. I think he can do well with some weapons. His most glaring weakness is the lob pass, however. Definitely needs to work on that.

Dolphins will be an exciting team to watch.

Miami seems like the only credible threat that could take that division form New England.
