Except somebodies division is wrong, 8494 divided by 129 is 65.8 plays per fumble.

That would be me, but it wasn't a division error, it was a typing error. The number of plays was 8694, not 8494. I added the 8 numbers correctly and did divide by 129 while preparing the post but transcribed the 8694 into 8494 while typing, so the 67.39 I initially posted is in fact correct.

And you would most likely be wrong.

I should have said, "most teams played within the legal range of psi" rather than maxed out.

I do think something is going on here, as the Patriots were the one spear heading the use our own balls movement, but what exactly that is I have no idea. I do know they have a history of breaking rules to give them a slight advantage, and history typically sticks with you causing people to not give you the benefit of doubt.

If no discernable benefit can be determined, than it's probably a simple case of they like the way the ball feels at that level. Discipline them for being repeat offenders of breaking rules, but let's not act like they made the balls remote control going in whichever direction they wanted it to.

Gotcha. Either way it's not what that article was trying to fool people into believing.

Brady is a big, strong QB with giant hands and he gets rid of the ball quickly. He isn't going to fumble a lot. Gronk is a gigantic, insanely strong TE with awesome hands. He isn't going to fumble a lot, either. Blount doesn't have a history of fumbling.

Brady puts the ball in good spots so his WRs don't have to take a lot of kill shots. Maybe the deflated footballs give them an ever so slight advantage, but I also think that organization focuses on doing the little things required to win football games better than anyone else, and holding on to the football is a huge part of that.

To be fair, he does typically sit at the bottom of the league in fumbles, but it's not every year and it's not like he isn't fumbling at all. I said it earlier, but this is likely a case of him liking the ball at a certain psi less than the legal range. Not hard to figure out how the elements will effect the pressure in the ball based on the weather. A softer ball would be easier to hold onto when it's cold outside. Don't think it's a high level of cheating, but it is breaking the rules to give you the best conditions to win. Not so much an advantage as it is a disregarding of rules to have the ball how you want it. Doesn't look good that Brady was the main proponent of wanting to use his own balls for each game.

It only looks that way to someone that made up their mind before hearing any facts. Prior to the rule change, the home team supplied the game balls. So half of the games every QB was able to use football that was prepared to their liking. The other half of the games, they didn't try out the game balls until pre-game warmups. And those balls were picked out by your opponent.

Read this article. It is from 2013 and gives some good insight as to why a QB might want to use their own ball.

From 2000-2006, before teams were allowed to control their balls, the Bill belechek patriots ranked 15th in fumbles. Since the ball change in 2007, the patriots are number 1...........................

They must have only handed off over-inflated balls to Ridley.
