During the entire debate of race in the late 1980's after the Jimmy the Greek debacle...they had a round-table discussion about race and sports with Brent Musburger (I think) and a bunch of guests like Harry Edwards, etc. talking about fast-twitch muscles and all these "myths" of genetic differences.

So they had this black track coach from Stanford and he said he would find a white Carl Lewis and put to bed this notion that black athletes have it easier genetically in sports.

Never happened.

I wouldnt doubt it. Maybe like 2%. Or 1 or 2 per team.

If there can be a position that hasnt seen a white guy in 10 years, and yet people will have long conversations about why there arent more black QBs, i think that proves that it wont stop until its all black.

Look at the NBA. No one argues there needs to be more whites. People just claim that the white dudes need to be better. But you cant say that about black QBs or baseball players.


The funny side of this is that while person to person this isnt true, generally speaking black athletes have a higher athletic ceiling. But this gets glossed over because no one wants to be Jimmy the Greek. So essentially you have a racist occurrence properly explained by a racist reason that just gets glossed over while we argue about other racist shite. haha.

It's not a black thing, it comes from 200 years of selective breeding at massive volume.

clearly there are, but it's impossible to figure out if that's the factor here. the eyeball test says yeah, but humans actually have such little diversity as a species so even if there was it wouldn't explain the racial disparities in leagues.

is the NHL racist? no. there aren't a lot of black people living in Canada and environments where it is most popular.

is the nba racist? no. basketball is a huge part of black culture.

is the NFL racist? no. there's economic and cultural factors at play as well. americans prioritize sports way too much. teachers and coaches and parents care more about you scoring a touchdown than getting an A so it's no shock that black kids that grow up in poor areas with shitty schools tend to prioritize it even more because that's one of their few shots at improving things or so they think.

private schools will pay your way and it's a great opportunity but it also sends the message that your worth as a person is measured by your performance on the field.

frick the racial disparity what's the economic disparity of pro athletes as kids? regardless of race most of them are dumb as shite and regardless of race i would suspect most of them don't grow up with a ton of options. at least that's my perception. i could be wrong.

If Lebron James grew up playing volleyball, he'd be the best fricking volleyball player ever.
