McGrady wanted out after the 03 season cause the Magic had sucked so badly, and he didn't care that they had the no.1 pick because he wasn't willing to wait on a rookie to develop.

Instead of Orlando trading McGrady, does anyone know/remember if there were ever talks of the no.1 pick, Grant Hill's contract, and filler going to LA for Shaq? Orlando could have placated TMac by adding Shaq, and LA could have had Dwight Howard instead of Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, and Caron Butler (who they would later trade for Kwame Brown lol)

Shaq back in Orlando with TMac would have been a sensational story.

Eta- 60 days till college football. The offseason after the NBA wraps up blows

Shaq had no interest in going to Orlando....
also the Lakers should've held onto Butler.

If anything, it would have been a Kobe for T-Mac deal, which the Lakers wouldn't have done either.

People forget that peak T-Mac was pretty damn equal to peak Kobe(early/mid 00s). More natural playmaker for sure.

I remember Dallas being another team rumored to be going after him. That's about it.

Shaq had a big contract that limited flexibility and keep in mind that the Lakers chose to keep Kobe with the purpose of winning soon. Kobe wouldn't have wanted to deal with developing a rookie (see Bynum).

I still wonder what a Tim Duncan and T-Mac Magic team would have looked like.
