Shannon Sharpe gets into the Brady v Manning Debate with Cowherd

Former Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe sent out a zinger tweet after the New England Patriots lost in the AFC Championship game. On Monday, the Hall of Fame tight end went on The Herd with Colin Coherd and dropped knowledge bombs on the Tom Brady-Peyton Manning narrative.
Cowherd started by saying that his gut has him picking the Panthers to win in Super Bowl 50.
“Colin, you shouldn’t have any gut left because you took the Patriots,” Sharpe said. “All your gut’s out! Do you have any guts left?”
Cowherd responded that he picks Brady in big games, and Sharpe had a ready retort.
“But here’s the thing, what about the narrative of Brady against Manning in AFC Championships games? What’s your take on that?”
Cowherd answered that the surrounding players matter more than [the media] gives them credit for, and that Manning’s surrounding players are better right now, especially on defense.
“But here’s the argument that I have—you never said that when Brady was winning!” Sharpe said. “Brady and Manning are never on the field at the same time . . . and the argument has always been Brady-Manning. Now that Manning is getting the upper hand in the playoffs, now we want to go back to describing players.
“Richard Seymour wasn’t with Peyton Manning. Ty Law, Rodney Harrison, Tedy Bruschi, Ty Warren—when were those guys with Peyton? We never gave Peyton that benefit of the doubt. But now when the tables are flipped—it was always, ‘Do you see what Brady’s record is?’ and they never threw that caveat in there—but when they played head-to-head, in the AFC Championship game, Peyton Manning now has a 3-1 record.
“Tom Brady hasn’t beaten Peyton Manning in a playoff game in eleven years! But see, nobody mentions that because that [doesn’t fit] the narrative . . . a wise man once told me, ‘It’s not good enough to say the score is going to be 24-23, give me a story line.’ What’s the story line? ‘Tom Brady’s the all-time greatest quarterback against a washed up, noddle-arm quarterback that got benched.’

I read that in a lisp without thinking about it

It's almost like a former player knows more about analyzing the game than some nerdy radio personality

It rustles me that the Manning GOAT talk is going into overdrive during a run as a game-managing geriatric. But, I see why people say Brady's legacy was overinflated for the same reasons in his early years.
Side note -- Shannon hosting with Bob Papa on NFL Radio is pretty funny. He just says "papa" over and over in that goofy voice.

Only because he hasn't played Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.

I get what you're saying - no sane person wants Peyton over Brady to QB their team in 2016 for instance - but I actually find it funny that people are so finicky in their views of the legacies of long-time veterans that a miserable game by both QBs on Sunday changed their mind. To put it another way, Manning has played in 292 games and Brady has played in 256 games, yet people seemed to be swayed by the outcome of the game Sunday. That is ridiculous.

Shannon Sharpe speaking the truth. Glad Colin got burned.

It will never matter. Anyone who plays in NY or Boston is always greater than anyone else according to the national pundits. Look at how Jeter was treated by the baseball media.
